WOW started in 2004 and was updated along the way with 7 expansions? I’m serious, this weekend I can post my CAM game recordings on fps, temps and game (WOW) on 2080 1440p

Not sure if troll or serious.

My GTX 1070 can max settings for DOOM at 120fps, ROTTR at 70fps and most other triple AAA games for the past 2 years at easy 60fps with some minor tweaks.

WOW is such an old game dated way back to the Geforce 8800 series.

Wow isnt optmized for multiple core due to engine age and limitation. You are still limited by cpu in player intensive areas. You can have 3080ti n your game will still lag.

if the intent is to play mmo game, it's better to go for an intel unlocked chip and o/c it to like... 5ghz+ bah

this way you lessen the fps tanking in mmo while not sacrificing much in modern titles (this obviously does not apply to 8350K - so consider 8600K, 8700K, 9600K, 9700K, 9900K)

WOW is mostly CPU bound so even a GTX 1050 is enough with a high frequency CPU.

If his SOLE game is just WOW, and gaming on high fps and refresh rate monitor, then an overclocked i5-8600k or i5-9600k oc to 5ghz is sufficient.

However if his monitor just displays 60hz, even a i5-8400 or an AMD equivalent is enough.

I am not really an expert nowadays so correct me if I am wrong.

I am using 9600k oc to 5 with 2080 to the results of 1440p around 100fps on average with wow maxed - let me test again over the weekend :)

both my monitors are 1440p but only 60Hz. is that an issue?

usually i will be playing on one screen and watching some tv show/movie on the other and sometimes in game i can see slight screen tearing. also not sure if its to do with vsync.

anyway, here's the thing. one of the monitors is 8 years old already and failing. i will be getting another monitor (havent decided which) with a higher refresh rate. so in this case right, one monitor at 60Hz and the other at 144Hz got any problem? i will probably play games on the higher refresh rate and watch my shows on the 60. can this work?

For wow you can probably max settings with average hardware except in

- 25M raids
- Crowded Cities

WOW is using an outdated engine so the only way to have high fps is to have high IPC. It favours intel cpu but i still wouldn't buy intel CPU to avoid the feel of being cheated.

TLDR: For GPU get 1070TI

Anyway are you getting a pre built rig?

1) u can use 2 monitor with different HZ , but there is some reporting the refresh rate of the gaming144hz monitor dip to the refresh rate of the second monitor when anything was playing or any animation on the second monitor. there is some workaround fix if it happen to u.
https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterra...for_people_with_dual_monitors_with_different/

2) wow really need high HZ cpu if u dont want the miniumun fps to dip too low during raiding.

3) this incoming 8.1 patch will have multithread optimizations for dx12 users. Lets see how much fps u can gain

4) AMD new CPU could be announced in about 4weeks time. Now is a bad time to upgrade anything. wait and see and decide later.

These are some really good advice by Jason OnEarth and that Mark73 guy!

Btw Sherry bro if you wish to buy a new 144 Hz monitor to replace your one of two 60 Hz monitors, it is going to help you loads in terms of smoothness to the eyes. Tearing occurred previously because your 60 Hz monitor was not able to keep up with the amount of FPS and information being processed and pumped through when vertical sync is off. You could imagine 14 lines of commuters squeezing through 6 eacalators. Now with your new main gaming monitor upgraded, is like the same 14 lines of commuters but easing through 14 escalators.

I am happy with my weapon of choice but since you haven’t decided and have the chance to make the most optimal decision - I share with you my only regret is I didn’t buy the same gfx as Zacky1223 😂

No offence but a bit crazy to spend so much $$ on rtx 2080ti just for WOW. Rather spend on a Gsync 144hz monitor + 1080/1080ti... unless u got $$ to burn.

sherrysim gd news! I was able to play wow at 40-60fps averaging at 50fps in-game and will go up to 100fps when idle/afk at isolated location with no/less players like class halls.

2080 seems quite strong 💪🏼 2080ti will be 20% stronger and 2070 will be 20% weaker

just choose based on budget! for 1080p a 580 or newer 590 will be ok at 5/10 settings

So 51 fps is idle? Then at Load sure if isn't it
