Anyone has any shop recommendations that do GPU thermal repaste + change thermal pads? I thinking of doing it myself but also scare I messed up then whole GPU gone.

My GPU temps is around 64-76c under load but the hotspot temps can sometime go over 100c even after undervolting. IIRC if GPU temp and hotspot have more then 20c difference mean not healthy already right? I calculated Abit, the average difference around 24c

Using RTX 3080 VISION OC 10G

but 24c different between hotspot and core gpu temp abit too much no?

Anything under 20 degrees hotspot is fine. Ideally, it should sit closer to 15 degrees delta. More specifically so, the type of paste used makes a difference and if your hotspot delta will run over time. Either PTM 7950 pad or TFX thermal paste will ensure your hotspot delta doesn't degrade. Any other paste has a risk of deteriorating over time. Been there, done that. For pads, check the thickness and go only with Gelid Extremes as they are squishy and compress nicely under pressure. I recommend Gelid cause I've used it extensively with very good results.

My watercooled 4090 hotspot delta is around 12 degrees and goes up to 15 degrees max at full tilt 600W as a reference.

Don't worry. Just do it. Learn from it. So next time you have the confidence.

PTM 7950 just get from shopee
40x40 is big enough
And make sure to freeze it in the freezer for at least 30mins before applying.

Buy from Taobao.. and beware of fakes out there.

When applying PTM7950, measure and cut accordingly. Apply by peeling off the film on 1 side first, then slap it on the die, then peeling off the film from the other side.

If you have a pen knife, you can use it to lift the film.. or even use your nail.

I have already applied so many times, and my tip is that you need to pay attention and look closely. No need to do all that boiling or freezing.

I'm pretty much set on the PTM just those thermal pads is abit headache due to thickness. if based on OEM measurement they use 3 different thickness,

1MM for VRM, 2mm for VRAM, and 3mm for backplate. I also wondering if I can just use 2mm for VRM so i don't need to buy so many. If i using the stacking method i not sure 1 sheet each for 1&2mm(80x40mm) enough for everything anot.

never stack them, just buy different sizes no choice.. i hope the stock one that came with yours is not as bad as zotac.. zotac used some cotton bud material lol.

Dun really need to measure, get slightly bigger than gpu die size, use the blunt end of the spatula to 'cut' out the excess PTM along the edges of the gpu die.

For the die i pretty much set on ptm already, the person above also mentioned 40x40 big enough also so that one settle liao. Now i struggling on the thermal pads for everything else.

Yeah, 40x40mm is good for both cpu and gpu coz i used for both under custom watercooling.

U can get 2mm thermal pads for all bah

If gpu die is 38x36, u buy the 40x40 la. Lol. even if u cut, what u can do for the balance PTM?

Well, the thing is that the GPU die is not that huge, your estimation is not close enough to apply that theory.

The GA102 is 23.4x26.8 is 628 square mm and the 40x40 piece is 1600 square mm.

If you applied before you know how big 40 x 40 is already compared to the die size.. why even waste it?

For the thermal pad dont scrimp for RTX 3080, the memory really can run hot.

I am using a thermal pad that is considered pretty hard. I won't recommend the one I use unless you are an expert and know what you are doing, because the harder the thermal pads, the less room there is for error. So let's say I buy larger +0.5mm, I would actually be screwed.

The gelid extreme is quite forgiving compared to what im using, and the gelid ultimate is harder than the extreme.

It's just a one-time thing, do it and forget it lol. It's just sad that manufacturers just scrimp on this kind of thing on high-end GPUs.

I agar agar, didnt go measure and cut exactly. Im using 7900xtx so die size will differ. Didnt even bother to google exact dimension to save the leftovers.

If buy big sheet then i agree. If buy small kit, then balance leftover use for what other purposes?
