Grab in JB

HI i plan to take a train ride to JB and from JB i am thinking of going to Persiaran southkey 1
Johor Bahru

1. Any safety concern if i take a grab from City Square?
2. If i wish to do a grab there is is i need to buy a Msia Sim Card to book a Grab ride?

3. Where should i put my pick up location at JB? City Square mall which side?

Safety concern... I'd stay away from taxi stands, and be very alert while using my phone to Grab in case of snatch thief (same as in SG).

You'll need data connection, whether free WiFi or from a M'sian SIM card.

Around that area, I'd choose Komtar JBCC where there's a Grab sign (facing CIQ side). If City Square, usually outside... I think it's Levis shop? If the location shown on the app is not clear enough, I normally indicate the spot in Note, like "outside Levis". (Note: I'm not sure if it's Levis, since I normally go to Komtar JBCC.)

I've been Grabbing the last couple of years in JB, though not alone. So far so good, except a couple of questionable incidents like driver taking a rather quiet and unfamiliar route. Friend was sort of panicking and I signaled to him to stay calm first. Nothing happened in the end, so we'd like to believe that he's from that area and was taking a shortcut of sorts.

Recently, we reach our destination and discovered the ride was "cancelled" when I got into the app to "end the ride", to give "stars" and remarks. Still wondering what's going on.

Do what you feel comfortable with. I actually started using Grab in Melaka a couple of years back, before I used it in JB. Back here in SG, I've only started last month.

From City Square Mall, you can indicate outside Levi store or outside Maybank. Both are busy places with heavy human traffic so don’t worry too much.

Just Grab from city sq's levis. So far so good and safe, just a note if car plate as no: HJAXXXX could be their teksi (cab). Some of the teksi also joined the Grab, don't be surprise.
