Taxis are rather notorious in phuket to try chop carrot. But is grabtaxi common in phuket? Maybe can use to avoid those mafia cabbies.

Taxi prices in Phuket also scare the Bangkok locals. They also recommend renting a car. The taxi mafia there is sibeh hiong.

U let them state price ma.

Wat i do is i flag them and tell them where i wanna go and give them a price. Of course price not under meter rate and it's not exorbitant.

Eg meter is 10, i give them 12 instead of them aaking for 20.

They say no then flag them off lo.

Hertz Thailand site is cheaper than the international one. No need any deposit also.
After taxes is still less than 1000 thb per day.

yes this one.

live FR after one day of driving in phuket.
generally ok if you drive slowly.
lots of motorbike
its like driving in malaysia
triple riding on motorbike is common, no helmet, squeeze whenever possible, and go against traffic.
traffic light are more guidelines than rules
but much less road rage compared to malaysia.

warning thou, try not to drive at night.
some areas no street light, even those where there is road construction going on and the road is extremely curvy and narrow.
at night the lane markings are not obvious, so traffic generally form their own lanes
