Hi bros, need some advice from you guys.

Thinking of upgrading my graphic card for my current system.

MB: MSI P45T-C51
RamDR2 2GB X 2

Which graphic card is suitable for my set up?

I got a friend with a 3 years old CM 550w when he upgraded to HD4850. Within a month, his PSU exploded and caused blackout to his house.

That's just the energy consumption by the graphics card alone. Full system power at full load should hover around 300W.

And CM Extreme PSUs' real continuous wattage is always significantly lower than its rating on the packaging...

It is advisable to swap out the PSU if the PSU is more than 3 years old.

It is not worth the risk. PSU over the years will degrade. One fine day when the PSU reaches its lifespan, it will just explode. And when it does, if the PSU is not good it will just bring down your valuable components together with it. Causing more RMA shyt for you.

Usually during an upgrade, PSU and GPU will need to be pair together.

On the other hand, you have a C2Q cpu which is quite old. Putting in a high end gpus MAY lead to bottleneck. They wont yield better results than a current cpu.

But since you have mentioned that you would wanna use it for casual gaming, do list what type of games you play? If it is for DOTA 2 then there is no need for you to change.

think the 7850 is fine.. i wanted to suggest 7870 but since so many ppl say ps will go boom then better nt.

but seriously 550w frm a brand psu is more than enough, if no brand then yes worried

Not if it is a high end. Those warranty with 5 or 7 years are actually fine till it reaches out of warranty period. But usually lah, i will just swap out once after 5 years.

But if it is those CM Extreme 2/ Corsair CX series etc low end type not very good.

My first PC lah CM Extreme 2 within a couple of months explode le.

My friend CM 550w is not the Extreme type, but 80+ rating. Yet it still bloom shortly after 3 years.
