Hi,

While working on my pc, it shuts down suddenly. Smelt something burnt.

I tried to switch on again and it switches on, but shuts down again in 1sec. It keeps on going thru this on / off loop cycle.

Tried to diagnose and found out its the video card, with a bit of burnt smell.

So I wonder if the whole graphic card is spoilt, or could it be just the fan? Any way to check?

Btw, it's an old GT220 card but I don't play games so as long as it works, I won't replace it.

Thanks.

List down your entire PC specifications so that we can help you further.

Do you happened to have an integrated graphics?

Processor
core 2 duo e8400
Mainboard
gigabyte p35 ds3r
Graphics Card
nvidia gt220
Memory
2x4gb ddr ram
OS
Windows 7

No integrated video.

Btw, MB bios has to be reset (take out battery) to make it work again. Else, it will go into a power on/off 1 sec loop.

Else, will the video card give error almost immediately after switch on, if fan is spoilt?

I thought it might take maybe 3-5 sec. So I am guessing maybe it's not the video card fan problem.

Its a very old pc. You might have multiple problems.

Remove the rams, take an eraser rub the contacts and put it back and try.

Remove the gpu and see if it does post, if it does does it shutdown later.

Remove the psu. Youtube psu paperclip test. See if psu is working.
