Contact (1997)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118884/

Dr. Ellie Arroway, after years of searching, finds conclusive radio proof of intelligent aliens, who send plans for a mysterious machine.

Based on the novel by Carl Sagan, "Contact" is a film way ahead of its time. The only hint of it being a 1997 film are the computers shown in the film. Other than that, it's as modern as it could get even when you watch it in 2011. The visual effects are stunning and it looks better than some of the recent films more than a decade later.

And the visuals is just the tip of the iceberg. The story itself is intriguing making you look forward to how the film will end. Although the ending isn't as good as I expected it to be, the whole film itself is extremely satisfying.

Is "Contact" worth 150mins of your time? It is if you love Sci-Fi and theories about extraterrestrial life.

Total mindfark.

i just watched Mr. Nobody. its a total mindfark movie. i was scratching my head all the way till the end of the movie. untill i realise (Spoiler Alert beyond this), he was just imagining all the plausible scenarios that could have happened with the 3 girls. that's all. lol.

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind

In a January issue of The Onion, the comic newspaper's A.V. Club rated Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as the number one film of the 2000s, beating out the likes of Christopher Nolan's Memento and the Coen Brothers' No Country for Old Men. The article states, "It’s the rare film that shows us who we are now and who we’re likely, for better or worse, forever to be."

It has been calculated to be the tied-for-second most critically acclaimed film of the 2000s (behind There Will Be Blood and tied with the three Lord of the Rings films) by virtue of its number of appearances on prominent 'films of the decade' lists.

watch it.

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE PRESTIGE

Aren't they twins?!

The Prestige SPOILERS

There are 2 magicians remember? The original one (Christian Bale) are twins. While the other one (Hugh Jackman) who is trying to find the trick by Bale discovered/made a machine that creates a doppleganger of himself whom he drowned in the water tank after each trick.

erm i believe he drown himself after every trick and his doppleganger continues to live on and continues his life since when he first tested the machine, his doppleganger was projected somewhere far away while he himself never moved an inch.
I believe he made use of this to do the transporter man trick

Not quite right. Here's what I read from IMDB forum, the original magician (played by Jackman) died when his doppleganger shot him on 1st try. The machine transported him to the other compartment while his doppleganger stayed on the tesla machine. The 1st doppleganger then made the rest drown at the tesla machine while he get transported and survived for more shows. I think in the book also explained.
