No hardware is futureproof. The only wise things is to get the best mid range price to performance ratio hardware and upgrade it when there is a NEED.

Both 1060 and 480 will give you the same amount of life span. Is there future proof in these 2 cards? Yes. But not for long. Give and take 2-3 yrs.
