Gonna buy a new card during 12/12 sales but not too sure

With the new AMD ReLive drivers, performance for the RX 480 almost matches the 1060 for dx11 games and surpasses the 1060 in dx12 and vulkan games

RX 480 in lazada is 390 (Sapphire Nitro+ OC 8gb)
after disc, likely 360
but 2 year warranty

GTX 1060 6gb is usually 350 and up on qoo10 after usual discounts.
but most are 3 years warranty (and zotac 5 year but zotac cooling like cui so prefer not to).

You all think rx 480 now better than gtx 1060 for at least 2-3 years? (scared sapphire 2 year warranty not long enough)

Nvidia fanboy will say GTX1060 is better.
AMD fanboy will say RX480 is better.

The Zotac is a single fan's selling point is the 5 year warranty. If it kaputs some time after EOL, you can hope for a GPU upgrade. For the Sapphire Nitro+ it is a premium card with strong PCB componentry (power delivery components) and dual BIOS except for the underwhelming cooling performance.

Titles aside, what is your objective?

1. Keep the card in active as long as possible (no upgrades)
-Zotac is the choice because of warranty backing and EOL GPU upgrade potential.

2. Objective is running the card at OC levels daily use
-The nitro's power delivery components are far better.

if u dun like sapphire can consider others like XFX or powercolor as the other 2 offers 3 years.

else the 3 big gaint : MSI, ASUS and gigabyte.

next for me i want to go with AMD but den again not many new title games are efficiently using dx12 atm and some dx 12 games dunno is it having some issues or just pasted that there is a dx12 (like that ROTR...though hitman does it correctly....dunno same game company different team doing different engine that causes it?)

lastly are u going for future dx12 games or still playing dx11 games?

ROTTR, GTAV microstutter issue was fixed at 16.8.x hotfix.
That was the first ever GCN4 specific driver. 16.7 and earlier were Fiji & Grenada optimised drivers even though some versions had polaris compatibility slapped on.
Other than those were early H.264 encode & decode issues. All are already addressed.
Although, AMD H.264 fix was late it was eventually resolved. They've moved on and finally added VP9 + HEVC main 10 support (although its late as well).

I would just say the major bugs on early drivers were resolved on both sides. Same with Nvidia with p state stuck (R372 + fixed) & nvlddmkm dpc latency (R376 driver seems to have addressed this for the most)

To be honest, I will go with the cheapest. Both GPU often trade blows with each other, so perhaps you can consider what games you are looking to play before deciding.

I prefer a long lasting card. I dont think i'll be heading for an upgrade anytime soon after this. I think performance wise, I am not too concerned since I am sticking with 1080p for awhile.

Think both cooling wise zotac and 480 are not good? Could another brand like Palit or MSI be worth the slight premium for 3 years warranty/ durability

XFX and powercolour no promotion on lazada. Main draw was the 389 bef disc on lazada for sapphire.
i think i will dabble into future AAA games when it comes out but all still on 1080p. I dont mind lowering to medium detail for some settings so performance wise, not too concerned. I'm looking more for like cooling and warranty, because i'd much prefer a durable card.

Nitro cooling is more than sufficient for reference RX 480 clocks aka "quiet mode" of the dual BIOS preset. But on OC probably closer between 1.15-1.2V (aka around the OC mode BIOS preset). The chip likely can go higher with sufficient voltage, but the nitro cooler can only go so far. If you get my point, premium card but probably the shroud is a grade lower than it should be but the 1340MHz factory OC is probably close to the best sustainable daily use OC the shroud can handle.

Overall depends on how you use the card, YMMV.
Comparatively, the nitro has better power delivery (potentially hold up better with age) but the zotac's warranty assures that you have a working card for 2+3 years. Something you have to decide for yourself, but different individuals interpret "long lasting card" differently.

From a brand agnostic standpoint
Personally I'd go with the latter as a no frills option, go with the former just for theming and windowed builds.

ya understand what you mean. but never team red before, alot of people on reddit talk about undervolting the card as well but i dont really understand why. is that advisable?

also with the qoo10 12/12 coupons and promos, prices for 1060 can range from 330+ to 360 (like daily deal for 1060 SJS) VS the 389-30 promo for the sapphire amd card, really quite competitive

I am just having trouble with at the same price point (or +-20), what is superior/value if I want a long lasting card (I assume bad cooling plays a part in longevity). Or is it really just going with the cheapest card.

Undervolt was because reference card voltages were somewhat poorly tuned.
Fanboys will tell you to undervolt any AMD card regardless and how leet their benchmarks became and won't tell you whether they have a sustainable daily use undervolt or something that barely passes a benchmark with barely sufficient voltages. Custom cards don't even bother with this, they are properly calibrated.
The rest I think is just personal decision. :)

Do keep in mind that the RX480 can be crossfire while the GTX1060 can't. Although that would really depend if the games support crossfire.

Just something to keep in mind.

actually realistically speaking, the 8gb sounds like overkill atm and future AAA titles *might* not require so much (if I don't mind lowering slight textures).

Would the RX480 4gb version for 320 - 30 be more suitable ?
(I understand 480 4gb vs 1060 3gb and 480 8gb vs 1060 6gb is the common equivalents). Don't really want the 1060gb because I feel like 3gb really is a tad too little

Would the RX480 4gb be the sweet spot in between? Decent performance vs the 1060 6gb with the new relive drivers and a good 70$ less than 8gb version and 40-50$ less than 1060 6gb.

dont plan for crossfire

4GB vram for 1080p is still okay, since mine hardly hits 4gb usage. Preferably >4 if you want to "futureproof"
The performance gain over time still favours amd more than nvidia, but either way won't go wrong with either 480 8gb or 1060 6gb.

nitro 4gb, 8gb or zotac 6gb are all ok for people that rarely upgrade imo. Maybe go for an option you're leaning towards.

Edit: and maybe the promo bundles Civ VI or indie bundle

actually thats my thinking too, no team loyalty. only listen to value :s13: then again no clear value winner here that's why asking for some advice

right now considering the nitro 4gb vs 8gb, more opinions i've got for longevity is the amd cards even though only 2 year warranty (as long as my silicon luck not shiat). By the price difference right now is 70$ for the 4gb vram more which is quite alot. both come with game also (might as well sell, also dont play one). so cannot decide which to go for.

yup, 1080p gaming won't exceed 4gb by too much right even if AAA, i also ok with lower texture/shadow to medium, possible to be sufficient? reason being 8gb vs 4gb actually got 70$ difference, quite big, can contribute to half of new kb/ mouse :s22:
