GTX 1080 FE - IDLE Temps: 58C

Guys

i'm getting pretty high idle temps on my 1080 FE. no OC, nothing. In ambient temp of 30C (singapore normal temps) - no AC on.

Temps are 58C when idling... how come its running so hot ?

does anyone know how i can bring the temp down?

i see u're running dual monitors as stated on the right.

your idle as in watching youtube or both screen desktop? to be fair , my 1070 idles at about 42 to 45 when watching youtube. maybe founders ed cooling solution not as effective when idle?

got 2 screens and the temp is when the screens have nothing on. just wall paper.... meaning to say completely idle....

on the latest nvidia drivers if that makes a difference.

Yeah, dont have much issues in game but rather concerned with the idling temps

MY gpu at idle also 55-58 with stock fan curve as it is only running at 500rpm. So i customise the fan to kick in earlier with afterburner, don't know if this will decrease longevity of card's fan life or not but nvm la, got warranty anyway.

Is yours FE too? My gpu fan idles at 1500rpm... A very far stones throw compared to yours at 500rpm!

Actually when running dual monitor like extending your desktop with windows. Your gpu will run at a slightly higher clock speed. Like it will switch to 3d mode hence the slightly higher then normal idle temp. Can check using hwmonitor under gpu clock speed you will see that it is running at a slightly higher clock speed.

At least that is what is happening to my amd gpu when I extend my desktop. When I switch only to 1 display it goes back to low clock speed and it will idle at 35 degree temperature. When I extend my desktop display and use dual display temp goes up to 55-58. This is the reason why I prefer to only use 1 display at a given time and not use the extend desktop feature.

No idea about nvidia gpu though maybe its the same. Can check your gpu clock speed whether it increase or not. Try see if idle temp is lower or not when using only 1 display compare to dual display.

Alright guys, problem fixed. So there was a missing driver called "simple PCI communications device" in device mgr. Googled it and read that the intel MEI needs updating.

Updated, rebooted and now the card is idling at 47c
