Lol, even if its true, need see perf diff between 1080ti and 1180 though. Scarly nvidia chu same pattern as 1080 and 1080ti - perf diff abt 20% but price only $100-150 apart at launch.

I always feel the Ti versions are much better in terms of performance differences compared to the first iteration of a new GPU. Turing should be good but I think those on 1080 Ti can hold on for the 1180 Ti unless you die die want to run on 4k 144hz. Even then, I feel that 4K gaming still needs time to mature for FPS especially. SLI is an option but it's gonna cost you a pretty penny just for eye candy on latest technology.

That is great news. I hope 1160 comes to Laptops fast.. Then Aftershock Apex 15 with 1160 is a must get.

Anyway hoping that its gonna be a new architecture instead of just a refresh. If new architecture the performance improvement could be as high as 50% over the pascal architecture. If the 1100 series is gonna be a refresh then its gonna be disappointing in performance improvement.

Whatever it is hoping that the new card will be good value for money, price/performance card. Haven't seen any new gpu releases from nvidia in ages. The recent gt 1030 2gb ddr4 is quite disgusting in the performance region with the same name as the gt 1030 ddr5 version which performs 50% or more better over the ddr4 version.

If u look at Nvidia's flagship chips starting from Kepler generation:

GTX 600 series: die shrink (32nm to 22nm), new architecture
GTX 700 series: refresh
GTX 900 series: new architecture
GTX 1000 series: die shrink (22nm to 14nm)

So it looks like GTX 1100 series might be a new architecture.
If GTX 1200 series follows up a year later, it could be a GTX 1100 series refresh.

Of course, Nvidia can decide to drop this entire release pattern altogether...

Two years is a good cycle. Pascal has been 2 years++. The problem now is my Ryzen CPU doesn't have enough raw MHz to make use of 1080Ti even on 1440p. Ryzen 2 hopefully fixes that. I feel like 1080Ti will become a mid-rage once 1280Ti comes out so I should be able to wait a bit longer.

I play at 3440x1440 Ultrawide with my graphics settings maxed out.
I average from high 80 fps to hitting the cap of 120 fps. If games do get more advanced, yes the 1080 Ti will become a mid tier card. But also really depends on your monitor and your upgrade path. I for one will be sticking to my monitor for a while as I think the switch to 4k compromises alot of FPS which to me is very important. So even for me upgrading to the 1180 Ti will just probably allow me to have a much higher minimum lower framerate probably like 100-120fps. I only play a small variety of multiplayer games. If BF5 taxes the GPU more than Battlefront 2 for example, then the 1180 Ti is a definite upgrade.

My 6700k still holds up pretty well but probably at my resolution, GPU makes more difference than my CPU platform altogether.

Not quite.



I believe Nvidia is using this new generation or the next to play catch-up to AMD's technology.


Remember AMD Asynchronous Compute that gave the Fury Series a lead over GTX 980 Ti in DX12 games back in 2015? Nvidia hasn't properly addressed this, only using pure compute power to cover up for the lack of hardware support for async calls to DX12 API. Since the process of re-designing a chip to prototyping to manufacture to release takes 2 years at least, 2018 is likely Nvidia's response to AMD's DX12 lead through Turing/Ampere.


If the next generation of Nvidia cards turns out to be a refresh, then AMD can easily maintain the lead in technology as long as they can figure out how to scale beyond 4096 compute units (their bottleneck in Fury/Vega cards).
