If u look at Nvidia's flagship chips starting from Kepler generation:

GTX 600 series: die shrink (32nm to 22nm), new architecture
GTX 700 series: refresh
GTX 900 series: new architecture
GTX 1000 series: die shrink (22nm to 14nm)

So it looks like GTX 1100 series might be a new architecture.
If GTX 1200 series follows up a year later, it could be a GTX 1100 series refresh.

Of course, Nvidia can decide to drop this entire release pattern altogether...

More like 1100 is a refresh of 1000 and 1200 will be the real deal with 7nm.

More like 1100 is a refresh of 1000 and 1200 will be the real deal with 7nm.

If you recall, Maxwell was actually quite a significant change from Kepler while using the same 28nm. In this case, it is possible that Nvidia may make some significant changes.

Titan V is another level liao. Nvm the performance, the name itself is enough to +1000FPS. Esp if you have a window setup and the word TITAN is facing you.

Hope that "Titan V could be bested by 1100 series." is just your wishful thinking coz if that really came true, we will be staring at an MSRP of at least USD$2999 for 1100 series flagship card.

Seems like u r talking about GTX 1180 Ti instead. I'm not gonna spend too much time talking about speculative rumours, but imagine if GTX 1180 is built on GT100. Where will the next Titan cards come from? GA100? How about the next GTX 1180 Ti? GA102? Although there is still no real competition from AMD, but I doubt Nvidia will be dumb enough not to re-use the same architecture for the same family of chips to enjoy economies of scale through producing one architecture of products at a time. If u look back at Nvidia's recent history, this concept of re-use also come into force. GTX Titan Xp came from GP100, GTX 1080 Ti came from GP102, GTX 1080 came from GP104. Same for Maxwell (GM100, GM102, GM104). If u pin ur hopes too high for a consumer Titan V, u may end up ranting when GTX 1180 comes out (Titan X Maxwell rant part 3 ).

The leaked PCB with 12 GB of micron G6 tells alot of story. You can say i made it up but i believe that is wasnt.

The speculated die size was 676mm^2. The expected size was 630mm^2. Granted its not exact size i expected but it was close. Also hwinfo alr confirm the existence of GV102 and GV104. That my friend is the gtx 1100 series.

This add another layer of confusion. But no one said Turing cannot be the next gen after volta which is 7nm GPU next year.

Anyway my point is that, NV is doing and following their 700 series lineup this time, where the GTX x80 gpu uses the big chip.

Xv is a placeholder. It could be T or Xt, no one knows. Parenthesis shows the specs of 1180 in contrast. But there, you have your answer.


Also i find it amusing you brought up the Titan X maxwell rant. Did you see me rant on the Titan X 2016 where it was a $1200 cut down chip or Titan V going for $2999? If you didnt see i suggest you start to live in the present and not the past.

Titan price never drop from nvidia stores. They are usually replaced. You have to get 2nd hand ones for cheaper price.
