Hi all, I have read up a few reviews, in comparison to the 2 graphic cards mentioned in the topic.
R9 290, better performance than GTX770, slightly, only slightly lower than 780, but at a price of GTX770, however, the cons is, it runs hotter, and many reviews mentioned about it being very noisy.
Personally, I am a fan of NVIDIA, because I feel their cards are more stable, and runs at a cooler temperature (I am still using GTX460, with Twin Frzr cooler from MSI). However, value for money wise, I feel AMD is better in that aspect.
What do you guys think? Drop me some comments, if I were to change a graphic card now, which one do I go for? Budget is < $600.

I think he referring to r9 290 (without the x ) as he mentioned $500+ range. if r9 290 I thought non-ref card is out already??

Yes, I am referring to the one without x. R9 290, so far, haven't seen any non-ref card yet. My GTX460 is in its final month of warranty lol. I am a fan of MSI, because its service centre is in AMK, which is more accessible from my place in the north, compare to Ubi, where Ban Leong is haha.

wait for non-ref r9 290. problem solved

Not quite. Although the temp of the chip will be lower, the heat still has to go somewhere. Meaning, the hot air is going to heat up your room. Might want to keep that in mind. =:p

I'm a bit more partial to lower power cards because it doesn't feel like I turned on an oven when I play a game... :p

if you have that budget is best go fr r9 290.

Nvidia till now prices way too stiff to compare with amd new cards.

Noisy or not will depends on which brand you take and the cooler they use. MSI twin frozr ones are well cooled and quiet.
