Im using star bright iron/duralumin with jumpwind metallic thinner, but the outcome is very rough.

My ratio is 1 part: 2 part thinner.

I use surface evo black as base.
Anyone knows why?

i use the Gaia before for the star bright sliver . i compare to the jumpwind iron i have, it seem the sliver particular is coarse as compared to the jump wind one.

mixed ratio 1 part to 2.5 thinner using thin multiple coat

however i might be wrong as i am not very experience only 1yr in this hobby.

this is a gundam MODELLING official thread.

if you don't clear seamlines, prime, and paint, you are not doing modelling.

you are not a modeller and just some kiddo playing toys as far as scale model is concerned.

I seriously do not think that you need to prime then paint just to prove that you did "gundam modeling" right. There are many hobbyist that collect gundams, build them but never prime or paint. We should respect this.

Yeah that's true. I am speaking from personal experience and in my opinion, Bandai's manufacturing of plastic models is one of the best available in the market. Not even Tamiya, Kotobukiya, Wave and Volks comes close to the precision of the fitted parts, the plastic material and the model kit's gimmicks and overall quality.

That's why out of the box (OOB), a Gunpla looks amazing. Of course with detailing works, it will look much better, even a matte topcoat changes it from a 100 to 200 score.

Compare that to an OOB Tamiya's model car or weapons and you'll get a 1-color model. Or Wave's Five Star Stories kits where without cement glue, it will crumble under its own weight.

I believe a Gunpla fan will eventually, out of his own interests and in making his kits look better, will start with OOB, then panel lines, color marking in the details, followed by topcoat and to the point of painting, decaling, and customizing. But if they wish to stay in OOB stage, nothing wrong too since I believe that more Gunpla consumers = more profits for Bandai = more MSV side series kits

And before someone shoot me, my own kits with minimal work, primarily OOB with panel line, default stickers and topcoat which I think are acceptable :

I just checked my collection for current OOB (waiting for decals to arrive) and in their state, I truly believe that OOB Bandai is good as is:

However, that said, I think we can all agree that in Gunpla and Gundam franchise, the only 2 things that should be criticized and cursed are scalpers and P-Bandai.

I rather buy from p bandai. local model shops are not worth supporting.

I feel that different scale modelling emphasize on different techniques. Planes need clearing of seamlines and the preshading is important. For armoured vehicles, the camo and weathering, for cars and motorcycles, mirror-like glossiness with clean decal application and for ships, the deck detailing and photo-etching.

The equipment and level of scale modelling entry is much higher than Gunpla, which is why M Workshop not as big as Hobby Art, and why Hobby Point's scale model kits don't move as fast as Gunpla (RIP Hobby Kulture). You need an airbrush, assortment of tools, all the different hues of paint and probably need real-life reference books and magazines to mimic their real life counterpart. Haven't even start on diorama. The kits are also generally more expensive. Compared to Gunpla, can even break parts from sprues using their hands, like the new Entry Grade.

Gundam is a fantasy subject, similar with other sci-fi subjects such as Star Wars, Space Battleship Yamato and the likes, and as such the fans would be more mainstream and less anal about the details. I find scale modeler more hardcore about the technical things, like which year production reference, which country's specs, the particular unit's actual equipment etc. In comparison, you slap an Anaheim Electronics decal on Gundam 00 Raiser, not many would bat an eye. In armoured vehicles, you put the mud wrong place, people will comment ask how did the mud get there.

Back then there was several Plamo modelling forum for SG/MY regions, attract PH, TH, VN users etc, all die out in the end as their members become busy with family and work, and very little new blood coming in.

Even CN and HK forums and websites, scale modeling's quantity cannot compete with the sheer quantity of Gundams.

Last time I also think that OOB is a bit wasted because things like nub marks, no panel line and glaring seamline takes away from the overall product value but over time, I see growing support for Gunpla and how it translate into more kits released by Bandai, I start to appreciate how easy it is to enter Gunpla hobby. I think it was with Unicorn series that Gunpla's popularity worldwide exploded, and since then we saw RE1/100, Real Grade, and now upcoming Entry Grade and even more Perfect Grade releases. Old series like SEED and 00, still have fans who are now eager for Bandai's merchandises.

Anyway I write all these also not to persuade you from your opinion, but just to say to those people who OOB, don't feel disheartened. If you want to achieve the true ceiling of scale modeling skills, maybe 1 kit will take you years, and by then you burned out and want to quit this god damn hobby liao, so might as well just get your favorite mobile suits and have that thing built however you want and displayed.

See this guy trace and cut out carbon fibre decals already make me tired and I'm just a viewer.
