if this is such a concern, then maybe regular life is not suited for you tbh.

You just look around those army personnel and see their hair length. Generally medium hair length is fine when you’re in unit. But it all comes down to how strict your superior are.

If you are a non-officer, pretty much depends on CSM/RSM in your unit.

My brother was a regular in Air Force (Tengah Air Base) for most of his career. I see he always have long hair. He said as long as you keep the sides and back short, and can hide the rest of your hair in the head dress during parades, you will be fine.

Hair length is a subjective thing to police.

Some camps' RSM are super on the ball, some others are a bit more lax - it doesn't matter if you are a regular or enlisted, or NSmen.

You go ICT, your unit RSM can pass, camp RSM cannot pass - the standard is that wide.

Whatever it is, as a ageneral rule, your hair should be short and neat with no fanciful styling gels, mousse etc.

If you need those to keep your hair in place, then you are spending too much time in front of the mirror.

Hair length needs to be short to prevent it getting into your eyes at critical moments.

You perspire less with shorter hair, and it dries a lot faster - who wants to sleep on a damp pillow after a quick shower at the end of a long tiring day?

This is your critical consideration to sign on or not? Poor SAF.

maybe you have some special reason for trying to keep long hair

in general bmt time will be very short no doubt

after that, in unit time, hair length standards will be about the same, for NSF or regular. meaning the back should not touch collar, sides must not touch ears, forehead when comb down must not touch eyebrows. roughly like that.

as a regular, actually you are setting an example for juniors and NSF, so you should actually be more strict about it. many regulars will have slope at the back, and shaved short on the sides. fringe usually short.

reservist a bit of leeway because they rush into camp from workforce. but standards are not unenforced.

hypothetically if you are always trying to test the system instead, then it will affect your career because you are giving a bad impression.
