Hi guys!

I'll be solo tripping to Hanoi for 9 days in the end of april ( I bought the tickets on impulse). Can anyone provide me with a list of things to do and things to avoid/watch out for?

I have never solo tripped in my life and thought this would be a great experience!

If anyone happens to be travelling to Hanoi during end april - early may, perhaps you'd like to travel together? :):):)

Cheers!

Am a female and spent 3 weeks solo travelling from South to North Vietnam. You'll be fine. It's a really safe country as long as you keep your valuables safe. You can travel down to Ninh Binh for the nature, Ha long Bay for an overnight cruise or up to Sapa for the cooler weather. Hanoi is pretty boring on it's own so i would suggest max 2 days there.

Vietnam is generally a safe country as long as
1) don't use your expensive phones while you are walking along the streets, with cars and motorbikes zooming past you

2) dress down. Dress neutrally. Don't "hao lian" your branded.

3) avoid places if you don't feel good

If you're staying in Airbnb, most residential streets in Hanoi will become very quiet after 8-9pm

End April in Hanoi is a "Season transitional" period because it is change from Spring to Summer.
So The weather will be crazy. Temperature in the day could be 30 today and 20 the next day
Bring along a light thin jacket

Hoan Kiem lake is traffic-free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Usually from 5-6pm onwards

Vietnamese people get up as early as 5am, so the city comes alive very quickly around 6am. I always like to go to hoan kiem lake in the morning for a jog

On a cloudless day... West Lake is the perfect spot to watch the sunset

Hi there! Can I know if you stayed in a hostel or Airbnb? I'm a little hesitant in keeping my stuff in the hostel. Not sure if it is safe to do so?

Thanks for the heads up! Is staying in the hostel or airbnb more suitable? I have my eyes on "Central Backpackers Hostel" the website looks pretty legit accompanied with good reviews! https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/Hote...s-Hanoi_Central_Backpackers_Hostel-Hanoi.html

I have never stayed in a backpackers inn or hostel before....

Airbnb... Yes.

Which one to stay... It really depends on your personal preference.
Travellers hostel or backpackers hostel in Hanoi are almost all concentrated within the Old quarter, right in the heart of the tourist hotspot.

Walking to the famous beer street, hoan kiem lake, famous weekend night market etc is EASY

I did hostel all the way. keep your belongings in the lockers or under your blanket when you sleep. Bring out the valuables with you at all time. I'll always go for the least amount of bunkbeds in a single gender room and make sure that theres a privacy curtain.

This is one of the nicest hostel I've booked and its in hanoi! I was lucky to get it at half price when it was opening. https://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Little-Charm-Hanoi-Hostel/Hanoi/290336

definitely miss all the vietnamese desserts along the streets near this hostel.

No need to stay at AirBnb because hotel prices are one of cheapest in Asia - you can easily get a decent room with windows and breakfast included for $50/night.

wrong choice bro, for choosing HN as your virgin solo trip of your life. The roads, the motorbikes, the scams, the culture, food, everything will be a shock to you. Your brain will scream out loud due to the overwhelming of senses that it cannot absorb.
