My win 10 desktop hard disk stop working this morning suspect it could be the os problem as the bios is still able to detect the hard disk and there was a update the day before which may suddenly caused this problem.

I thought if reinstalling win 10 buy I have some files on the desktop and in the download folder? Is it possible to retrieve back the file if I reinstall the os?

If you don't have another computer, buy an SSD and install the OS. After OS installation completed, connect your old HDD as secondary drive. Your data should be accessible.
