Hi guys,

I've built a rig recently (As per on the right). However, my 1TB Toshiba HDD is producing random click sounds. It does not sound like the click of death from what I know, as it only clicks once occasionally. Like really just 1 single click sound. It's coming from the HDD as I've tried unplugging my HDD and the sound does not occur. The single click sound also happens when I shut down my computer. After fans power down etc... the HDD will once again produce 1 single click sound. My system however is working perfectly fine.

Did some googling and read that some people say it is just the HDD read header parking back to "rest" position hence the single click sound. Yet some people also say any click sound from HDD is not normal and should get it replaced asap. :s11: My power settings is for my HDD to turn off after 15mins.

Hope to get some information/advice from you guys. Thanks!

If you are worry, download and run HDTune error scan (do not check) Quick scan and see if there is bad sector as well as the Health tab for warning.

It's perfectly normal for some Toshiba to have a click when powering up or down. This sound is caused by the heads spindle hitting against the stopper when stopping or bouncing off the stopper when starting. It has no effect on the heads itself.

As long as the hdd is performing fine, it should be ok.

Clicking sound on 2.5HDD is normal one.
Click sound on 3.5HDD then I suggest you backup and perform full scan over night for bad sectors.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like as with all the other replies I've seen on other forums, there will definitely be mixed opinions of this issue is normal or abnormal. My build is only about 2 weeks old so no important data on it which I do not have on my external HDD. Will see if I can RMA this drive and see if the same issue occurs.
