Hard Disk failure???

Hi guys,

Just a few days ago, I went on to start my computer and came to message about one for my harddisk,

"HITACHI S.M.A.R.T status bad, backup and replace"
hitachi is my 1TB HDD, whilethe other 2 is SSD.

However i had problem booting up window..

May I know what can i do about it ?

Yup definietly GG to your HDD. is your OS on the HDD? Next if u have installed the OS in your SSD. My guess will be most likely is your HDD is connected with the OS MBR as well. Another hung is that u disconnected your HDD and boot with just SSD see if it works.

That above is already a sign. The same thing happened to my Dell laptop back during Poly days with the exact same issue of the Hitachi HDD failing as detected by S.M.A.R.T.

Just get the drive replaced with an SSD all the way. Also, try to extract any data you can out of it. Avoid using it as a boot drive. But just to copy data out of the drive and do not try writing anything to it.
This will give you the chance to save your data before it dies with unnecessary read/writes made by the OS.

Try go into bios settings. Disable your hitachi and the other SSD drives and only enable the SSD drive with the OS inside. Bios boot priority set to boot from the ssd drive with the OS. Should be able to boot into windows.

Windows installation disc use rufus tool to create with 8gb thumbdrive if you have older win10 iso or a 16gb thumbdrive if your using the latest win10 iso build.

The cause is simply that during OS installation on SSD, setup found MBR files on HDD and just update it without creating a new one on SSD.

The correct procedure should disconnect all other SSD/HDD except the one you are installing OS on.

Weird thing is that, when i manually boot from HDD, I can still start windows.

I tried booting from the SSD(where windows was installed, it led me to the 2nd picture, which asked me to re-install w the windows window etc)

What do you mean update MBR Files without creating a new one on SSD.

Is there any instructions i search to know the correct procedure to disconnect ?

Do you mean physically or just go Bios to disable

During win 10 setup, will search all connected drives for MBR file. If found, then the setup will proceed to update that MBR file even if the choice of OS drive is different from that of the MBR file drive. This is the case if any connected drive previously is an OS drive.

That is why best to disconnect all drives except the intended OS drive during setup. This will force the setup to create a new MBR files on the intended drive. Secondary drives can be connected back after Win 10 setup completed.

So the solution to mine problem to back up all the files in the HDD then remove all other SSD and HDD.

boot up the SSD OS drive and reinstall SSD and buy new HDD ?

Update:

I can only boot up windows with the failing Harddisk.

I cant boot up windows without the other SSDs even tho window is installed on the SSD.

Well u will still need to install windows in your OS drive since it can't boot up with just your SSD in it right?

Why don't you go into your Bios and take a picture of your bootup options sequence ? There's a chance your ssd is not in the boot up option.

Yup most likely your secondary drive is busted. This is one of the symptoms as well.

A quick fix would be, basically get a windows installation flash usb.

remove all drives physically except the 1 where your windows is installed.
Load bios and boot up the usb and repair. This will help fix the boot up process

I notice an error, as i have already removed my partially spoiled HDD. However my com will hang whenever im playing PUBG. Other games are fine.
