From BackBlaze:

https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-reliability-update-september-2014/

Looks like HGST is still at the top of their charts (or bottom, depending on how you see things). With WD falling a little behind and Seagate still just as bad.

Also, enterprise hard drives are not really worth the premium as they fail as often, if not worse than consumer drives.

I'm surprised to see WD RED having a quite a high failure rate for my liking. 8.8% annual failure rate.

u welcome bro :)

yes but personally also dont know whether available in SG or not cos not into 3.5" Toshiba external

seen Toshiba 2.5" portable commonly available only :)
Note: 2.5" HDDs r Toshiba own native products, not fr HGST

i'm actually looking at getting another external hdd for my desktop after one of my wd elements died on me due to i/o device error.

saw that HGST are the most reliable and therefore thot thats gonna be my next hdd. however it seems to me that the 2nd most reliable, WD, as per the graph seem to be easy to find.

i hv a no. of WD 3.5" & 2.5" external (as well as internal) all bought between 2009 - 2011, all touch wood so far so gd though amongst them some i seldom use.

unfortunately it's the 1 & only HGST 2.5" i bought during promo in 2010 hv pending bad sector due to connectivity issue (i/o device error too) w/ a family member's laptop.
& recently accidentally damaged the hdd totally cos carelessly rubbed against an external power molex when trying to plug-in to a usb port on a desktop in the dark :(
