Hard shell/Sleeve or both for Macbook Air?

Just purchased my Macbook Air and wondering how much protection I need for it? I want to maintain the slim nature of it and just want to prevent scratches.

Thinking of buying a matte hard shell from Qoo10 and Crumpler The Fug sleeve. Is it overkill? Anyone knows if the Macbook Air + hard shell will be too big for the sleeve?

Fug (13" MacBook Air)

I tried both when I was using my MBA 2011 model.... the extra weight of the hard shell not very worth it.. esp the hard shell on the top (LED display back) adds the weight and sometimes interrupt with the inclination of the display panel - can't keep on certain degree of inclination.

Using the Fug now just for my 2013 MBA, problem solved

Get the sleeve. The metal unibody is tough enough to survive being rammed into a server rack with only a chip, while lesser plastic body laptops would have cracked.

Just one qn: how much does the fug cost in Singapore stores? Crumpler AU selling at A$35... I think SG should be $60+.

Sleeve. Little point adding weight to the laptop if you are buying it principally for its low weight. The sleeve to protect it from scratches in transport.

In any case, hard shells are pretty useless. Dust still goes in, and it gives you a false sense of security. Have seen it often enough, where people finally remove their hard shells, they find scratches.

Was using Tucano second skin sleeve and now using the Speck see thru. Previously i placed the whole thing inside the sleeve but noticed everytime taking it out, i get static shock. In the end just use the Speck case and placing it directly into my Targus city fusion.

By the way my MBP already is protected by a transparent matte front and back film.

I have a hard shell on my lappy in addition to a cover i don't know what to call that but it's a zip sleeve the brand name is thule sweden ordered from apple. Dust won't be able to get in.

wow i thought i was the only one overdoing the protection. Mine has the smart shell casing from speck and the gauntlet sleeve from thule both ordered from apple. I checked most ppl's laps at my class and i think i was the only one with any protection at all. Some of them had macbook airs and pros but don't see any protection on it at all. Does your screen have protection?

:s13:If it was bullet proof can use it for protection next time when he goes on mission.

Anyway i noticed that shops don't really sell much casing for macbooks. Even the sleeves are hard to find or it's just generic sleeves for laptops of that certain size like say 13" 15" 17" etc. Not as easy to find these things for macbooks unlike iphones or ipads. I also notice fewer ppl have protection on their macbooks or laptops in general while most phones will have a casing.

eh.... i don think u can fit ur mbp with smartshell into the fug altogether, it will be a very tight fit and u will have trouble taking out ur laptop time each time till the fug is ....well seasoned and loosen.

bring ur mpb wif the smartshell to any crumpler store to test first....

There's a regular fug I saw on crumpler AU web. It fits the regular 13" MBP (the thick one). I guess mine (retina) with the SmartShell will fit in fine, but of course I'll go have a look at crumpler store first.

Oh... u stated earlier MBP without the "r" as in rMBP which i thought is the phat version. That said, the fitting shouldn't be much issue then.

Haha yes, my bad there.
