Hardware failure help

i needsome help.Recently, one of my pc failed to boot up normally.

Upon pressing the power button, the fans and power indicator would run normally for (1-2) seconds before it powers down by itself without any noise indicators (beeps). After 3-5 seconds, it would power itself back up again and thus the cycle continues.

When I did some troubleshooting. It seemed like it had something to do with either the mobo or the ram. the Psu unit seemed fine.
The mobo+cpu would run normally with the power indicator lights BUT it does not show any boot screen (mono+CPU+GPU). But, when I tried to power the pc with the ram installed, it showed the same symptoms. Tried each slot and different ram, but it still had the same symptoms.



So it is the motherboard that is faulty right?

If u don't put the ram in of cos it's not going to boot at all...

Whenever u have this problem, switch off the pc main power.

Count 10 seconds to let it properly discharge the power then try to start again.

ram errors or no ram detected will produce a long continuous beep at POST.

which your com fails to load to POST.


Could be likely your PSU(power supply) has failed or motherboard problems

I'm guessing.


How old is your PSU and what brand...etc

Do not unplug it. Leave it in there to discharge any static electric. Just turn the power off.

Troubleshoot your psu first. Get a spare psu and replace it. If it works, means your psu is faulty. If it cannot boot up, could be your mobo.

Indicator lights is not a accurate measure of your PSU. Just like your house lighting can work, but power to your fridge could be faulty.

Understood. Thanks for the replies. I tried to test the PSU earlier today but I couldn't find a metal-wire thingy around my home to jump start it with. I will test the PSU with my other computer tomorrow. Many thanks for the help so far.

Have the same problem with a old pc with asus motherboard frequently. Normally just need to clear the cmos, sometime clean the ram contacts.

Had the same problem as you. Figured it was the RAM, was using the kingston ram then I changed to the RipJaws. Been a couple of months now, no problem.
