Hardware problem or software problem?

Hi, i have been facing this problem intermittently and its driving me crazy. This problems only arise after i do the compulsory win 10 update. Posted here because it might be the hardware causing the problems.

Issues:
1. sometimes right after turn on my PC, the PC will hang/lag, unable to select folders/takes long time to select the folder or do any other task, but still able to access the windows button.

2. Unable to use Words or Excel, able to open it, but it will be a white page and you unable to do anything on it.

3. Corsair K70 Lux lighting profile not loading, become the default red profile. When i open CUE, the keyboard being detected is K95 instead of K70, i don't even have a K95 keyboard.

What i have done to try to resolve it:
i had reformat the PC earlier, reinstall win 10, do the compulsory Win 10 creator updates and its ok for awhile. Install back my programs 1 by 1 to monitor if its due to any of the program that its causing the problem. After that the problem comes back and i suspect its the 3rd party Anti Virus (AVAST) cos that's the latest program i install, so i uninstall it and the problem went away for awhile.

Now the problems comes back again.
And i realize whenever it hang/lag (i go to windows update & windows Defender using the search bar ) , coincidentally Win 10 had just install the updates or window defender just install protection updates. Could it be due to that?

Whenever it hangs , i will need to restart a few times by leaving the "Task manager" apps open.

My spec is:
Mother Board : ASUS H97 Pro Gamer
Chip : Intel (R) core i5-4460 CPU @3.2 GHz
Graphic Card : ASUS Nvidia GTX 970 STRIX
RAM : G Skill RipJaws DDR3 16GB
SDD: Samsung Evo 850 500GB (using it for OS)
HDD : WD Black 4 TB
PSU : Seasonic X Series 650W Modular
OS : win 7 professional - then upgrade to Win 10


Do you this its my hardware that its causing the problem? Not compatible with the latest Win 10 compulsory update?

If really no solution then no choice i would have to switch back to Win 7.

First thing you should do now is a System Image Backup to the HDD. This will allow you to restore your current Win 10 build if necessary.

Your rig should work with Win 10. It could be some OS corruption. I would suggest a fresh Win 10 install.

Alternatively, it could be a hardware problem. You might want to do an SMART test on the HDD.

EDIT: You say Windows button/Start Menu works means system is not hang... It seems to be waiting on something, probably your mechnical HDD? Maybe HDD failing

If you're accessing files from your 4TB mechanical hard drive, it will take some time to open.

To save power, the HDD is usually powered down and the spinning disk is stopped. First time you access it, it takes time to spin up the disk. If you wish to prevent that, go into Power Options and select Never for "Turn off HDD after:"

Either that or your HDD is failing? Check SMART using this link : Howtogeek : S.M.A.R.T

This is a weird issue. Other than reinstalling the Office, not much solution.

If your files are on the HDD and if it starts to fail, the programme can hang when trying to access the file which your HDD cannot provide.

For the keyboard, only way is to reinstall the CUE...I found this on Corsair forum.

First,
Uninstall the CUE Software > Go to AppData and remove CUE folder.
>Go to control panel > Hardware and Sound
>Click devices and printers
>Right click Keyboard
>Click the hardware tabn, now a bunch of things should pop up, your keyboard should be somewhere there
>Press it then click the properties button
>Click the driver tab
>Click uninstall
>unplug it then replug it
>Redownload the software
>restart your pc

Hmmm.. OS corruption? But i had reformat the OS and reinstall Win 10...

thanks for the propose solution, but this problem come about right after i do the Win 10 compulsory update... before the update it working fine.
i will try the HDD power option to see if it resolve the problem.

it might be your source installation having issue. could you try getting win 10 image file with the latest update rather than update once installing win 10?

i unable to power option for the Mechanical HDD, cos i using SSD to load the OS.

i ran SMART to both HDD and SSD too, both are ok.

Yes that is correct.
1) Clean install of latest Win 10 with Media Tool
1.5) Create a System Restore Save Point
2) Window updates
2.5) Create a System Restore Save Point
3) Install the rest of your programs

This way if it is a program conflict or Windows Update conflict you will know.

Sometimes, it is like that due to the updates not yet finish installing. Whenever after Win10 update, please manually press "restart" instead of shutdown to finish the update. Because in Win10, "shutdown" become more like hibernate in order to have "fast startup". You can also disable the fast startup in power options or just manually click restart when feel lag after update.

hmm.. but this problem surface after i install the win10 creator updates earlier in 2017. Thats the 1st thing i notice after the update finish and it hang/lag. Then i go to recovery and "Go back to an earlier build" of the Win 10, then instantly everything flows smooth, no lag.

So is it conclusive to say that the problem is cause by the win 10 update?
