Have you guys encounter this?

I am using iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with Mac OS Sierra Version 10.12.4. While I am editing photos using Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 on my iMac with Chrome running (about 8-10 tabs), my iMac will warn me about my disk space running really low (like 450mb kind of low). I have to save my work then restart my iMac.

After restarting with the same photo using Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 and Chrome running the same amount of tabs on, the disk space is significantly reduced to almost 200gb free.

I have encountered this multiple times and I have to do the same every single time. I am also one who regular housekeep my files to keep my imac running healthily. Is this a commonly reported problem? Thanks in advance

it's probably scratch disk/swap/paging being used...

I thought scratch disk help with the performance when the ram isn't enough but in my case, my imac warned me about disk space running very low which I think is a very different thing

scratch disk = HDD space
just look at yr memory pressure when u r running those stuff. probably very high that's y it starts swapping n using e diskspace...

I have only allocated 245mb on scratch disk. I don't think that is a lot of disk space. I am not one who is very well versed with the technical jargons so i don't really know what swapping means. Please pardon me

If it is still low in disk space at the moment, click on the top left hand corner apple icon, choose "About This Mac", then click on the Storage tab and click on the Manage button.

It will show you a breakdown of your disk usage. If you still can't figure it out, post the breakdown to us, and we see if we can spot your problem.

just look at activity monitor the memory tab. u can see memory pressure, swap used. if it's not yr swap, use a disk usage visualizer like Disk Inventory X or OmniDiskSweeper to check what's eating up yr disk space...
