just bought Astone 2 bay usb3 dock. works like a charm. 69 from fuwell or cybermind.

Could you try sleeping your Mac with your dock connected.
Does the HDD spin down?

After about a minute, wake your Mac.
Could your Mac detect the drives in the dock without you physically remounting them?

I tried an old USB2.0 one last year, didn't work for me. Haven't tried any others.

While I appreciate the price advantage of a dock, why not get a NAS? Drobo for Petpet?

Got a USB3 Vantec Dock in the end.
The NAS?... I got some parts I'm savaging at the moment
Hoping to make a Linux NAS.
