HDD enclosure or HDD dock

i have a old 3.5" IDE harddisk, with the newer motherboard no longer support IDE, I was thinking of getting a HDD enclosure or HDD dock. which one is a better options? Alternatively, I saw there is some adaptor(chips) that can convert the IDE to SATA by plugging directly to the IDE hard disk, is this a good option?
