Seems like there are very few threads on the above topic, so i thought it'd be good to start a new topic on it
recently, my desktop PC internal 3.5" HDD failed whereby my HDD cannot be powered up by any power source. even PCB swop/diagnosis at a SLS shop didn't help as the recovery can only be performed if power can be supplied to the HDD itself.
many SLS shops that do recovery can only take in HDDs that can be powered up or else the job would need to be done in a specialized lab where the HDD is taken apart for the disc layers to be read. meaning that the issue is classified as hardware failure.
such cases can cost quite a few hundreds to 1, 2 thousands at least per case, depending on the problem nature and the size of HDD/data. for my case, i managed to find a shop at SLS that can recover data due to hardware failure at $250 for a 160GB HDD.
frankly, not many shops/places around sg have such capability at a lower-than-typical cost. the shop i went to was called Apower Tech at #04-68 in SLS. besides that shop, any of you guys been to/tried any other place/company dealing with such unconventional crashing issues to share with everyone here?
