HDD head replacement

Hi,

anyone know what to take note if i'm replacing the head (aka the whole needle part together with the chip connecting to the PCB board ).

cos i saw that the needles seems to be have many sections and by right how many of the thin flim should be on the platter top and bottom ?

Didnt know its user replaceable. doubt itll work after u put back. unless your room very clean

It is called actuator and is not replaceable even at the assembly plant. Have to swap the entire actuator. And if the read head is somehow bent n out of place, chances r the surface of the platter may have scratches.

Don't understand what u mean by thin film.

U need at least a class 100 clean room to do the process.

First, you'll need a class 100 clean room or at least a clean bench.
Second you need to practise on at least 200-300 disks to be able to successfully replace the heads, without destroying the heads or damaging the platters in the process.
Third, you need to have international contacts for the exact replacement model like, disk model, heads number, country of manufacture, same firmware and disk machine number. Each brand has a different parameters and you must know what are the parameter for your brand of hdd.

There are much more to consider. These are just the basic consideration.

Doesn't seem so easy as just replacing the heads that you see on youtube. You don't get to see the secret proprietary skills and steps that each one of us have.
