Everything was going fine, no hiccups, no changes to comp.

Then one rainy evening, I turned on my computer and it hung at the detecting IDE step on POST. Now, usually, this means a dead HDD, so I opened up my casing and unplugged my HDD and plugged them in one by one. Cut the long story short, it was my WD black 4TB that was causing the POST to hang  I resigned myself to all that lost data...

So, by chance I decided to plug it into a SATA to USB converter I had lying around and to my suprise, it worked! The drive powered up and I could copy everything off onto another hard disk.

So I plugged it back in... hang at POST.

I bought one of those 5.25" HDD hot swap bays... If the HDD is inside on startup, hang during POST. But if I inserted it after Windows is up and running, it worked fine.

So, anyone has any idea what's going on here? I don't know if it's the HDD or some MB setting... I could turn it into an external USB drive... but... a bit waste of a drive.

Any ideas is much appreciated!
