HDD SMART Fail

>3year old 1TB Seagate.

Recently reformatted due to unknown booting up error.

Then received an error message for Hard Disk Failure when I left my PC on overnight.

SeaTool (Seagate Diagnostic tool) indicates SMART failure.

CrystalDiskInfo indicates "Bad" under relocated sector count 27 current, 27 worst, 36 threshold.

Should I change my HDD? It has been > 3 years old, hence no more warranty.

Yes, change to an SSD. Current HDD will give you a lot of problems.

But my chipset doesn't support trim, if not I'd have gotten an SSD long ago.

What is a good replacement HHD right now?

In the past, Samsung F3 is the clear leader, but I think it was discontinued.

I've had enough of Seagate and WD,

and according to this article the recommended brand is Hitachi.

Currently Hitachi is hard to find because it has been acquired by WD which then divested to Toshiba because of blah-blah-laws-blah-blah, but if you can find Toshiba drives starting with serial number HDKPC08 are rebadged Hitachi HDS723030BLE640 which are the newer revision of HDS723030ALA640 that scored very well in the Backblaze article above. I managed to get one last week (manufacture date July '13) from Bizgram.
