I'm heading to Kyushu in November, understand that most of our phones can't work with Japan network. Means my note 2 can't be used there? What are the ways that you guys use to get data there? Much help is needed.

B-mobile worked fine (used it during my stay this Mar, even slightly further than main land in Yakushima).

Japan already using GSM standard. So long your phone can access 3G signal and the supported bands, as indicated in the support page:

Your device must support one of the following frequency
LTE Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 19 (800MHz), Band 21 (1500MHz)
W-CDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA Band 1 (2100MHz), Band 19 (800MHz)

Otherwise, you can try to subscribe to dimitri_can service here or critical888's here which you pick up in SG then use it there.

No problem on hotspot with Android but unless you are getting the unlimited bandwidth, you might want to control a bit. Heard that there is some limitation on certain version of iOS.

Make sure you get the correct SIM card type e.g. nano, micro SIM that you are getting for your phone.

I believe you can still rent local phones to include calls but that will be another story.
