Hi all, would like to know if anyone of you went for a heart checkup prior to enlistment? I have a condition which i do not know whether it's considered serious. I would have difficulty breathing when i jog and also have really bad and sharp pains in my heart area if I breathed in too deeply. When the pain started I would have to take very short chopped up breaths for the pain to cease.

I had my ns medical checkup already. Was then told by my MO to consult a heart specialist to diagnose my heart condition after i mentioned my condition. I got a pes d btw.

Has anyone have this sort of condition? Is it considered serious and should i go for a heart checkup? I am really CONFUSED now. Can somebody give me some suggestions? And if i were to go for a heart checkup by a specialist, might cost me a bomb right? :(

Well very simple situation to me.

You value your health more or you value your money more?

But is it a serious problem? I mean if it sounds like a serious one, i would definitely go for a check up. Right now what i do not know is that whether is it a serious case or not..

Wait for some medical student to come in and give you his speculations.

Whether it's serious or not, don't you find having a peace of mind just goin to consult one? Go polyclinic get a referral. It will be subsidies.

no one would know how serious it is without examining you. its best if you could see a doctor first for an ECG and auscultation done.

yeah better to get it checked
You can try the polyclinics which may be cheaper and they will most likely give you a referral to a specialist if required
Most likely you are looking at a slack NS life though:)

treadmill exercise

Hey guys...thanks for all the valuable suggestions. Really appreciate it~

I just went back to cmpb today and the mo referred me to a cardiologist at MMI for a treadmill exercise (TMX).

Anybody did the TMX test before? And since it's a MMI specialist referred by a MO, will it be any cheaper?? Or will I have to bear the expenses myself? :s11:

And the MO mentioned there will be approx 3 mths delay for my enlistment...kinda regretted declaring it.. :(

Hi TS, diagnosis is free but treatment(aka medicine) will not be borne by the saf.
This is because your heart problem was not caused by SAF.

if no problem, should be normal intake, either earlier or later one. just go there run on the machine and done :)

bring your parent along to MMI at DXO near NUH. :)

I thought once you enlist they'll pay already? I went for my regular heart checkups during NS and all paid. Just show 11B. I was born with my heart condition. Not caused by NS.

Hello, TS is a PRE-enlistee meaning that he has not got his 11b yet.
Once he gets his 11b then things will be different.
