Hi,

this would be my first time travelling to Japan. I was planning to visit both Osaka, Fuji and Tokyo over the course of 2 weeks. So the thing is, I have checked the JR pass and it cost about 320 SGD for just a week of travelling domestically. However, would the option of landing at NARITA Airport then taking a 1-way domestic flight to Osaka, then by shinkansen to Fuji, and finally Tokyo.

Any advices please?

Don't forget about the location of train stations and the check-in check out, luggage collection hassle of air travel often negate the actual flying speed over the slower shinkansen.

domestic flight is usually cheaper than train, especially if u can get promotion on budget carriers like Peach airline.

however, as mentioned by cpuer, with all the hassle of checking-in/out, transportation from airport to city etc, train is usually more convenient.

another consideration is the timing of the domestic flight. will u need to wait very long between landing at narita and taking the domestic flight?

since domestic flight timing as usually not out so fast i.e. at the point of booking the international flight, so you guys are usually flexible with your timings and having to wait in between?

Hm don't really want to wait cause I think when we land in Narita it will be about 2 plus, and the domestic flight will be around 5pm I guess. So if I buy the JR pass like that more worth it? It will cover from Tokyo to Fuji to Osaka and back uh?

actually 2+ to 5pm is very good already. by the time u clear customs and get out of international airport, probably about 3+. can go check-in domestic already

if taking train, then yes, JR pass will be worth it for ur trip.

That's why I seek advice mah, since costs also a primary concern haha.

Since my constraint is only allowed to reach by Narita and leave by Narita. But as suggested earlier, the domestic flight okay? Need to wait from 2-5. Somemore I googled yesterday they say the airport got some Domestic check in procedure the moment you arrive from International flight?

So if I take the JR pass, it's sort of more convenient uh? Since I can travel to Fuji and Osaka before going back to Tokyo?

i would just purchase the JR and take the train to Osaka as it's a much more convenient option compared to taking plane..unless you like going through customs and waiting/rushing for flights....and then try to maximise the cost of the pass by planning your trip around JR train routes

Mt Fuji is located just next to Tokyo...so you should be visting both Tokyo and Mt Fuji together before moving on to Osaka

What I would suggest with a JR-Pass and 14 days of travel to have an idea of what else u want to do

Osaka itself is a 3 day affair without any sidetrips to Kyoto (which is very near via train or shinkansen)

For Fuji, a better idea is to take the highway bus from Shinjuku. You need to reserve but reservations only open 1 month ahead.

I would go to Osaka after landing in Narita which involves a good half day on the train, then go back to Tokyo for the finish.
