Hi guys just got my Alienware X51 R2. quick specs are intel i5, 8gb ram, 2tb +256 ssd and gtx 745 oem.

I would like to upgrade my gtx 745 to maybe a gtx 660 or gtx 760. I am waiting for my 330watts psu to arrive to accommodate the potential of a gpu upgrade. My main worry will be the psu. Can those who have these card running in their x51 share your reviews? Thanks!

760 need 500w PSU. Refer nvidia site for PSU requirements for various cards.

750ti is more suitable

No.

Foolish to upgrade beyond 750Ti unless you are using at least 500Watt. First year of use alone can reduce capacity by 10 to 20%...

If it's a power brick, even more foolish to use high wattage due to fire risk.

SLS got plenty. More expensive ones will be MSI, gigabyte or Asus. Palit n Leadtek got single fan n cheaper. Try Videopro at level 5. But still think u should upgrade PSU first

Self-help-> Google web for graphic card review and look at the load power consumption, you'll see that they are at or more than your 330W max. Not healthy. Should keep under 80% of 330.

Performance not much different than your 745... No point. To be exact , should not upgrade your graphic card due to alienware power brick system...

You can however change the CPU or add storage devices, since they don't draw too much power on load.

Not sure about x51 config. Actually wat I did with my Acer i5 was to change whole case altogether to fit a bigger psu. Also noob here but with so many videos on YouTube for diy, its possible. Will never go back to OEM brands again.

The casing of Alienware 51X R2 is not the standardize size that many company use. You have to double check if the component that you buy will be able to fit into your casing.

Don't end up buying something that cannot fit into your Alienware 51X R2.

I'm running a 7870 myst/3570k/3HDD1SSD on 450W PSU. A good 400W PSU is plenty enough for a 760.

You're planning to get a 330W psu to run together with your existing PSU or just run alone on the 330W? If just alone, 330W for a 760 is really stretching it a bit but its possible.

Buy a system with such a well designed small footprint SFF case only to throw it away for a generix ATX case, might as well just go for the ATX case from the start.

The current X51 ships with 760TI and the 330W power brick. How come you all say the psu can't support 750TI?

there are mini itx cases capable of fitting in bigger psu and gpu. probably ts should have gone for tat if pc size matters.

was stated cannot support 760/ti. also nvidia site says so.

750ti of course can. only need 300w.

GTX 960 specs is out. You can wait and upgrade to the power efficient variant.

Of course, other than power requirement. You need to make sure the card can fit inside that compact casing. Size matters...
