I gt an old crt toshiba dramatic v fastext Tv(the big big kind with hunchback one). I bought an indoor antenna from cash converter. I plug in the antenna but only see black n white. Funny thing is I unplug the antenna and leave the wire there and my Tv is also able to receive the same black n white image.

The wire IS an antenna by itself. Have you tried fine tuning the channel frequency and also try tweaking the picture options?

I know it sounds stupid, but I hope it is a color TV you bought. I am also wondering why you do not have the wall tv outlet. Based on what you said, I can only think to move your tv over to next door and try on the tv outlet or antenna to confirm if your tv is ok.
