Hi all,

Could I get your help to recommend me parts for building up a computer at Sim Lim?

Budget: $800 (for CPU only)
Purpose: Do work and surf internet and some light gaming.
Additional notes:
- I have 2 hard disk from my old computer that I intend to fix onto the new PC. Is that possible? Regardless, I would still want to get a new HDD.
- Also, any recommended place to buy and assemble the computer? Based on what I read on this forums PCThemes seems reliable.

Many thanks!

2) As long as they are SATA HDD you can re-use.

Yeap, thanks for the tip.

Wanted to get some suggestions for a rig prior to heading down to their shop to buy from them.

Whats your current pc specs?
Go download speccy and paste your specs.
https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy

You might not need to upgrade whole rig.
Not much improvement for cpu in the last 6 years.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. I am actually building a rig for my friend. Her PC crashed and can't be booted up so she just wants to replace the entire thing. Can't run speccy as such.

Any suggestions on a good spec?

Thanks.

Just wondering if you could recommend a cheaper graphics card and a disk drive with more storage capacity (~500 GB)? If it is cheaper to have a separate hard disk installed, can you please recommend it too?

May I know if you are prices are based on PC Themes?

Thank you.

I do not need a SSD. Could you please recommend something else?

Can this play games like no man's sky?
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
Processor: Intel Core i3
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: nVidia GTX 480, AMD Radeon 7870
Storage: 10 GB available space

Thank you.
You don't need an ssd because you already have one?

Change any of the stuff you want. It's just a guideline. If you don't want SSD, change to a Toshiba 1TB 7200rpm HDD lor ($53)

SSD and HDD performance different is night and day though, but whatever floats your boat.

No Man's Sky is hard to run on this. You will need a GPU. You mentioned light gaming. I'm expecting esports games like Dota2, LOL, Overwatch.

- Asrock AB350M Pro4 + AMD R3 2200G ($266)
- Crucial Ballistix Traver 4GB x2 ($133 via Lazada)
- Superflower Leadex ECO Silver 500W ($88 from Make Fine)
- Toshiba 1TB HDD ($53)
- Fractal Design Focus Mini ($75)

Total: $615

Remaining budget can get a gtx 1050 ti 2nd hand. The above I only change the HDD and down the ram to 8gb instead of 16gb.

Doesnt make sense. If you want to get a dGPU like a 1050ti then why would you spend so much on a newer 2200G. The powerful integrated Vega graphics are a complete waste here.

Plus its expensive, and needs an expensive mobo. And since TS never mentioned overclocking, a ryzen CPU wouldnt be relevant either.

G4560 priced at sim lim for 85 SGD. Versus 2200G priced at 149SGD at sim lim.

A G4560+ mobo for < 200SGD paired with a used/new GTX 960 or GTX 1050 would be a better fit. If TS doesnt mind playing No Man's Sky on lower settings.

And highly rec throwing in a cheapass 120gb ssd for OS. The speed diff is night and day compared to the dinosaur HDDs.

2 cores 4 threads is rubbish. Rather a 4 cores. Intel's nearest offering, i3-8100, price with a H110 (inferior motherboard with only 2 dimm slot) is still more expensive than R3 with B350. Zzz

Yes, Vega is wasted here. But benefit like Intel CPU, where if your gpu down, you can still get a display through the igpu and it can still play some games when you doing RMA.

Hi Hellspawn, I believe SSDs are much more expensive than normal hard disk? Thank you.
Yes it is. But i would strongly suggest you get a 240gb ssd for your os and games. The performance of ssd vs hdd are very big. You can use a hdd for storage.
