[HELP] Computer freezes randomly. Usually while gaming.

My computer freezes at random, usually while playing games. It can run for long periods of time without anything happening to it if im just using it normally, like surfing the web or simple photoshop. I have sent the desktop to a shop to check if there is anything wrong and they said all components were working find. Drivers are also updated. Is there anyway to find out the actual problem at all?


Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
Intel Core i7 3370 3.4GHz
Graphics Card: Palit GeForce GTX580 3GB
Monitor: Dell U2412M
PSU: FSP Aurum Pro 850W
HDD: Hitachi 1TB SATA
RAM: Corsair Vengance 16GB (2x8gb)

Do a memtest86. Download and store in thumdrive and run.

It's kinda hard to say for sure, but something similar happened to me twice before. The first time was my graphics card, and the second was my mobo.

Was kinda lucky to have diagnosed correctly both times.

Anyway, you can try doing Memtest (RAM), Furmark (graphics card), Scandisk (HDD) and IntelBurnTest (CPU). These will hopefully help you to narrow down the possibilities.

@royfrosty @xtreme84 Ive did those tests, and results came back showing nothing wrong with them. Ive been suspecting its the PSU, although I have no idea how to check that.

can you a hdtune test(this is for harddisk).
and check for viruses/malware...etc

I usually use task manager and check the .exes or go start type "msconfig" and check the start up programs for any suspicious programs and check via google

turn off c1e state and stuff and try. although mine is z87 but works for me. by the way do you use back ur old psu or something?

What is your desktop resolution? Your game Resolution? and what video cable you are using e.g. dvi cable or hdmi?

monitor the system temperature too; especially the cpu and gfx card.

Check your fans are working too. Had my CPU fan die on me, but the heat sink could handle normal loads, so I didn't notice until gaming when the CPU would overheat and hang.

Use HDTune to scan hard disk for bad sectors.

@DeadandBuried all my cpu fans are working normally. Temp is normal as well.

@jtjt00 yeap did that. No bad sectors or anything.

Normally if it is the PSU the computer would hang at random times right? not only in games.

not sure u saw my post or not. i had problem with the c1e state ,c6/c7 even surfing web. not sure why they just cock up the whole system. sometime update bios would help.

or or... did u tried rubbing eraser on ur ram gold contact? sometime will work. hahaha
