[Help!] Computer won't boot

My CPU was working fine before I went overseas. When I came back it failed to boot.

There is no video output and there is no beep at all (there used to be 1 short beep) from the motherboard when powered on. All the fans are spinning. However, the weird thing is the CPU cannot be forced to shut down when I hold the power button for 10+s.

I googled about the problem and most of the results tell me that the motherboard cannot POST.

The motherboard is ASUS P5Q PRO.

May I know what is wrong with my computer and how I can fix it?

Possible that the PSU is dead. Try using a paper clip and do a test.

I just tried this test and my PSU's fan is spinning which means it is not faulty right?

What else could be the problem?

I removed the components until I am left with the mobo, cpu and power supply but I am still not getting any beeps. I suppose it's either my cpu or mobo that's spoilt.

Does anyone know of any method or place that allows me to test which is the faulty part for free or a nominal fee?

If PSU is spinning reattached everything back but change the power connector to the hard disk. Possible no power supplied to the hard disk. If it turns on means connector faulty.

If still doesn't turn on try with another hard disk. If turn on means HDD dead.

If still fail check the power switch that is connected from the front is it connected properly to the board.

If connected possible board dead.

Yes. Is either your motherboard or cpu which the latter is unlikely.
Can be your power supply faulty by not providing enough voltage.
The most likely problem is your motherboard then psu then cpu.
There is a shop at sls that provide free diagnostic. U can search his tread on hwz.
I assume no beeps is equivalent to no boot.

You mean you did not put in the RAM. If no ram, surely cannot boot or post.
There is a possibility that your PSU is faulty. I would normally trouble the PSU first. Just get a spare PSU and replace the connections of the old PSU without taking out the old PSU.

If it can boot, means your old PSU is faulty. If cannot boot, then you troubleshoot the Mobo or CPU. Spinning fans or lights does not mean the PSU is not faulty. Just like your house, the lights can turn on, but your fridge might not be working.

No ram can boot. Just that the beep code will be ram missing.
Best way to test whether motherboard is working is to boot without ram.

Thanks for all your input guys. I don't have the spare working parts to test which is the faulty one so I will bring it down to a shop for them to verify for me. Thanks again!

it work for me most of the time. There is one time it not boot even I clean the ram, I use vacuum cleaner, set to the lowest and suck out the duct on the cpu fan and the psu fan, the dust may cause the cpu too hot to start. I don't boot after I clean but it work the next day.
