Hi people i'm new to this computer stuff and would need help from you guys. Recently my computer has been acting up with sudden black screens and while booting up it shows that cpu temperatures are too high. I've checked my cpu (i7 2600k not oc-ed) idle temps which is around 40-50. When i play some games like Dota 2 it gets very high reaching 80 at some times. I suspect it could be my cpu cooler that is causing the problem.

Are there any other causes or suggestions to help with this problem? I have read up about things like thermal paste and coolers but still could not find an answer to the overheating problem. Right now i could only think of getting a new cooler (i'm using stock cooler) although i do not know how much it can help :s11:

If CPU has been sitting in that motherboard for 2 or more years, it would be a good time to re-apply thermal paste to help with CPU cooling. If things do not improve after repasting, some virus could be active in the background working your CPU for you.

If there is no exhaust fan, temperature will remains high even with fresh thermal paste applied.

Not sure whats an exhaust fan but i do have fans on my case though.

My cpu is 3 years old now probably that explains the heat :s13: But i highly doubt its a virus because i scan my pc quite regularly. Will try out the thermal paste option if it would really help.

Maybe there's dust so you may wanna clean up or have a direct fan blowing towards the chassis for better ventilation? Or even on air con haha.

I've cleaned almost every possible places i could and aircon is out because i use my computer in my living room :s13:

Guess i would just get a cooler and see how it goes. Thanks for the help anyway guys :)
