Hi,
My desktop blacked out while I was playing DotA2 - and I haven't been able to turn it on since (Not even to POST - the status light flickers once). I thought it was definitely the PSU, so I went out and bought a new one today - no luck (and I wasted $$$).

I did the barebones test boot - no luck either; only the graphics card fan twitched once.

I'm hoping to fix this on a budget, any hint of what I can do?
Or should I just get a new mobo+processor... any recommendations then?

Thanks in advance!

1st Remove your GPU and replace any working GPU to test.
2nd How many pcs of ram do you have?

Try with 1piece of ram without gpu and without others HDD. Only the HDD with OS connected. Boot up,see got fan spins in PSU,CPU anot.

Since the fan moves a bit then stop, likely a short circuit force power supply off.
Disconnect HDD, DVD writer and GPU to power on. If able to power on and stay on, then one of the 3 is likely short-circuited. If still the same, likely motherboard.

Hi,

As my LGA1156 board is one without the integrated graphics option, I think it will fail the POST without a graphics card attached.

Nonetheless, I'll try it out and get back here! Thanks for the replies!

EDIT: I'm currently doing it barebones - I took the motherboard out and only attached the RAM, PSU and GPU, so...

Thanks, guys! It was the GPU. I didn't suspect the GPU because I just got a new one from RMA. I am so glad I don't have to buy a new processor or anything of the likes... Thanks!

I don't think you got a new one from RMA, more likely a repaired one.
