U seem to have a serious psychiatric disorder - Depression! So serving NS is NOT your main problem & to renounce your citizenship to avoid NS won't solve your problem at all! If your sickness left untreated you will face more problem in working life & will be even worse in other country.

Just my 2 cents!

Long story short: Prior history of clinical depression, currently severely depressed, on medication, seeing SCC, appointment with *** in Feb next year, seeing a psychiatrist at CGH. Kind of suicidal, and can't imagine serving these next 2 years in any capacity whatsoever for reasons that are hard to explain (mainly cause they are irrational). Need advice/guidance/help

I'm currently 3 months into my 2 year obligation and I'm deeply depressed. I had an episode of depression prior to enlisting as well, so I have a history of this illness.

I was actually looking forward to NS before enlisting and went in with an open mind. I wouldn't say I had aspirations to go to OCS, but I was open to it. However, something snapped about 4 days into my confinement, and since then every day it got worse. I finally reported to the MO and got a 2 week MC 84 LD (little did I know I was already OOT). Saw my psychiatrist at CGH (who I previously saw for my first episode), went back on medication. Long story short, I was posted out to ASA work.

So I was on meds, excuse stay-in, non-combat vocation, so I should be doing well. And I was for 2-3 weeks. But then slowly I was burning out again and getting worse until once again I was back as low as I was in BMT. These two moments, as well as one previously during my first episode, are the lowest moments of my life. I'm currently on 5 days MC, still feel like pure ****. I can't stand the thought of doing 21 more months of this, and truth be told would likely kill myself if I have no other option. I'm really hanging on by a thread, but I just can't keep going on, not for 21 more months. I really just want PES F... or to give up my PR... or just anything else...

And I know that some see this as weakness; not being able to do what countless others do. And I too know that, but I have a very sick, irrational mind I guess...

I was hoping someone could help me, or give me advice. Not in the sense of emotional and motivational support. I do appreciate it, but I have friends and family who also do that, to no avail really so I was thinking more practical things I could do, people I could report to etc.

Thanks in advance :)

Such a wuss. Strawberries.

to be honest, being posted as an ASA is a much better "career" compared to the actual working life in an office environment.. considering that it is much more relaxing apart from the regimentation of having to wear uniform (some working life companies do wears uniform), first and last parade, book-in and out procedures etc.

if being an ASA is an issue to you, I really wonder how will your working life be.

Why you start another thread to this?

Renouncing PR is unlikely to get you out of NS. But getting PES F does.

How you going to support yourself next time ah?

one advise for depression.. if one thinks that they could not cope with the society, and having the many "i"s.. pls imagine yourself being alone on an island. which u will have to make up your own mind on how u going to make a living out from scratch and progress for the better.

unless that person does not even bother to try anything for survival, i can only say, please respect your own presence on this earth. For me, i believe in after-life, karma and retribution. If you are to give up on this current life, your next life might be the same or even worst. Till next life and even the following, you will only be complaining about your existence.

u say u have prior history of depression... so NS is not the likely cause although can be aggravating factor. Depression can be treated, so get help early. Common self help is to exercise regularly, kun gao gao, jiak ba ba, stay healthy, avoid alcohol.

cannot advise u on NS, other than serve it, its 2 years of our time. NS is not root cause, treat your depression, if not it can be "HELP Deeply depressed serving NS", replace "serving NS" with working, being single, etc etc.

I suggest you talk to your supervisor or look for MO to seek professional advice.

Talked to everyone.
-(one of my) Supervisor is a DXO and very supportive and told me to let her know if I need anything.
-Seen multiple MOs, on Tekong and at my new camp. So far haven't reported my suicidal thoughts bc it's a chargeable offence, but I'm thinking of reporting it soon... apart from they just got me a *** appt.
- seeing SCC, psychiatrist and a psychologist now as well, just waiting for my next appointments with them.
