Hi, I need some help with my dell Inspiron 7420 laptop charger. The mini green light isn’t lighting up so I’m guessing it’s dead. Tried using other laptop charger but plug don’t fit.

If I need to buy a replacement, what info on the adapter do I need to check? I see a couple of numbers behind like 90W-AC then input ac 100-240V ~1.5A
And output DC 19.5V = 4.62A

And there is the pin part that connects to the laptop size difference.

Must the values for the new adapter be exactly the same?

First, Chk this to make sure it is the power adaptor faulty.
Unplug the adaptor from the laptop. Wait for abt 5 minute than plug in the power adaptor to the main socket on the wall. Dun plug into the laptop and see if the green LED is on.
I have this problem on my Dell before, The moment it is plug into the Laptop
the green LED when "OFF".
Thus it is the laptop power circuit is Shorted.
Thus I send it to repair. $......
Next, If the power adaptor is spoil, Chk the colour of the connector ( white or black ring) . I have a few of this dell Adaptor in my store room.
PM me if you need it.

Hi, I tried last night without plugging to laptop but still no light. I think it’s adapter spoilt. I need to check the connector color when I get home tonight. If it matches the spares one you have, u giving it free? Hopefully? :D

U mean the plug that plugged into power socket right? The adapter got 2 parts - 3 pin wired to the rectangle adapter, then another wire from adapter goes into laptop hole. I took the 3pin wire and plugged into another hp laptop adapter to test and it was able to charge the hp laptop. So I think this means fuse is ok.

Pls correct me if I’m wrong cause this technical stuff idk much about. Ty
