[Help] Downsizing a PC

Recently had some problems with PC. Couldnt fix it myself, so had to carry it all the way down to SLS.
Had the sudden thought of downsizing my PC so that I don't have to carry until so heavy the next time I have to go down.

My computer specs are as follows:
Motherboard = P8H61-M LX
RAM = 2 sticks of 2GB DDR3
Storage = Samsung Evo 750 SSD
CPU = Pentium G620 :zotto:
GPU = Don't have
PSU = Can't see label anymore, but it came together with my motherboard

I think the motherboard is mATX size (correct me if im wrong), so if I were to downsize, my options are
1) mITX
2) Mini PC

Which option will allow me to re-use majority of my computer parts, so that I can save money?
Or if I missed out other better options, feel free to suggest them to me.

Even the CPU and RAM cannot reuse inside the mITX or mini PC? :(
I only use my computer for very basic surfing (absolutely zero gaming), that's why after all these years I'm still holding onto this rig.
Haven't had anything break down except for a few HDD.

You mean those USB kind?
My LCD monitor is those old kind, still using VGA cable, dont have any USB slot to plug in the Intel Sticks

Since you had it fixed and do not wanna spend money, just buy a Matx case and transfer everything over lor.

You can't find the an ITX motherboard for that generation of hardware anymore unless you can TRY to source it from taobao. No promises and I doubt it's worth the effort.

Just get an Intel NUC. Google a bit to see what is it. And perhaps consider changing your monitor. A basic one cost about $100 only can support digital input from HDMI and Display Port.

Consider this, your PC and monitor have served you long after their supposed lifespan. You have gotten more than what you paid 7-8 years back. Giving it an upgrade now is not that bad of a choice anyway.

Briefly googled for Intel NUC and saw the pricelist from Cybermind.
The cheaper ones (less than $400) have very weak Celeron CPU, which are even weaker than my ancient Pentium G620 according to cpu benchmarks :eek:

Sumore the CPU inside NUC cannot be replaced right? Abit scared Celeron won't be able to handle my usage, never try using Celeron before.

Other than that, I actually quite like the idea of using an NUC. The box looks small and cute.

Celeron CPUs aren't that bad for most basic tasks. My old ITX setup with a G1610 was able to do handle web surfing without any issues. The only problem is why spend that much when you could just get a cheap small matx case.

Since you already have an ssd and a still capable cpu, it would also not make much sense to move to a mini pc setup which has small capacity emmc storage with an atom processor. Sure it'll still meet your needs if you just want to downsize.

that is why i so love my hp stream 7. this is coming to the fourth year of using it and i am still loving it. it is next to my bed all the time. it instantly switches on when i want to do some light reading or surfing of the internet. it is with me wherever i travel. i only wish i can upgrade the ram.

and all this for a miserly s$150 when it was on sale on amazon. this is definitely one of the best buys for computers for me :D

since only surfing, just get a cheap android tablet.

Really grateful for your suggestions!
My current mATX case is 35 x 35 x 18, and I'm not sure if I can find any casing that is significantly smaller than the one I have.
Even at this size, I still found it a hassle to carry it all the way to SLS, which is why I created this thread =:p

Since I have been surviving well with my ancient Pentium G620, I feel that it's a bit wasted to buy an i5 core since I probably will never unlock its full potential :s13:
After looking through qoo10 and various brochures, I find that NUC cores are generally on the far end of the spectrums (ie. either Celeron, or Skylake). Don't have the "in-between" cores like Pentium.

I don't think u play 3d game. Just buy those cheapest oackage deal can Liao $300 to $400 very things in except for monitor. Os maybe.

I have a full tower. If i need to bring it down to Sim Lims, i will just use a trolley like everyone.

Type C or D will do. No need buy another computer casing.
