Hey guys,

I am considering either a eGPU, a new desktop/laptop or a custom build for my gaming needs.

I'm very new to the DIY scene, the last I had a custom PC was 10 years ago and I had so much issues with it I never went back.

My budget is around 2.5 - 3.5k and what I am looking for is longevity. Currently I have a Stealth 13 with a MX-150 GPU that doesn't do anything.

With the upcoming AMD processors in September, or even the Asus Zephyrus G14 showing much potential, the lines between desktops/laptops/eGpu are kinda blurred since I don't care about my games graphics settings (usually on medium) and am satisfied with 90 hz refresh rate.

What is the best option in your opinion, considering each options utility.

2.5 - 3.5K is quite a decent budget if you're not after the top-of-the-line products.
How you define "longevity"? You mean the durability of the components, or the upgrade path ?

If can wait till Sept, then 4000 series Ryzen + B550 motherboard should be a good combo to build from.

"longevity" in terms of having components that can last at least a few years before upgrading. Do you think a 2070 would last 3 years down the road

well it depends on the resolution you want then. 2070 would be comfortable up to 1440p, stretching it to 4K would be tough, and frankly no point having medium settings on 4K just to hit a decent framerate, kinda defeats the purpose. So yea, if you are okay with medium settings and up to 1440p, 2070 is good. Longevity is subjective and based on your personal preferences, even 1080p is good enough for me :)
