Help: How do I know what upgrades my computer can support?

Hi hi!

I bought my computer over 3 years ago, and recently I started a new game but it's laggy and I can only play it on Low settings... I'm a complete noob at hardware, so wanted to see if there's anyone who can help see what kind of upgrades my computer can support

I'm playing Overkill's Walking Dead right now, and my screen is Samsung 24.5" Gaming Monitor SHG50 with 1ms response time (Model: LS25HG50FQEXXS)~

You need a GPU upgrade, either GTX 1060 or 1070.

In addition, you can also consider getting a bigger SSD and put your games there instead of the HDD.

I thought of upgrading my graphics card, but a friend says that my motherboard might not be able to support it and I'm not sure how to check... X.X

He's saying that I might as well get a new computer, which might be waaaaay out of my budget currently...

your friend bs la. Can still upgrade to 1060 which is more than double the performance of 960.

Can also upgrade to 500gb ssd... and add more ram.

XD my friend say he'll buy my old com when I get my new one... Now I know why, that bugger...

If I upgrade to the 500gb SSD, does it mean I gotta reformat or something? Cuz I think my SSD is my C drive with all the windows stuff...

Oh, and I've installed new ram on my old laptop before, is installing a new graphics card as easy? X.X just "push it in till I hear a click" kinda thing? Or where can I go to get help on this kinda thing de?

You can take a look at my specs on the right. I'm using a GTX 1070Ti and we are both using socket 1150 MB.

It's easy to change. Just remove old GPU, plug in the new one and download the latest drivers from Nvidia.

For the SSD, you can transfer Windows and the software over but not necessary. Just add the new SSD and use it only for games.

btw have you optimized your SSD i.e. run TRIM? The SSD can get bogged down if not optimized regularly.

Not sure what socket 1150MB means, but I take that it's confirmation that I can upgrade my GPU XD

Yup, you might want to move your Steam library over there. Just google how to do so

dont think your fren try to smoke you. previously i have acer predator (bought 2012) and iirc i cant switch the gpu. need to totally change the mobo.

i recommend to buy a new 1, salvage some useful parts from old system

Acer uses a custom BIOS which restricts upgrading.
