HELP! I accidentally destroyed my com..

Hey! Thanks for viewing! I need some help with my Custom built desktop from 2012.

Problem: So about a year ago stupidly went to vacuum my com cause it was damn dusty. After which, even when I play games like dota it will spike..Before that it could run almost any game smoothly on my GTX670 graphics card(which was quite good at that time)..

Moving on..Now I am trying to fix the spiky problem. I have no idea what I destroyed by vacuuming. Have I killed the graphics card? Should I just replace it then it should be fine? Or do I need to change the CPU or something also?

More info: I ran 3DMark11 free edition and got this score http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/11765994
its P3568. Thats even lousier than a 2013 gaming PC tho. So I think something must be wrong..

Hi there,

I believe you might have caused a static discharge on your graphic card while vacuuming. You should never ever vacuum computer components as the components are very sensitive to static discharge. You should get an air blower and blow the dust off. For now, you can try to ensure that your graphic card is plugged in properly and ensure the power cable is connected securely if there is any. If these methods does not work, try using another spare graphic card to test with.

As to restoring to its former glory, you can try changing the thermal paste on your graphic card as well as get an air blower can to blow off the dusts buildup on the heatsink.

You probably just need to reseat the CPU and GPU. It's time to change the thermal compound.

No need to change the CPU. You can upgrade the GPU to GTX 1060 or 1070 if you want to play current games.

So likely just buy new graphics card should be okay? I scared buy already still lag sia. Even when I try play dota with AI(offline) on full graphics also damn lag..means graphics card issue right?

you got try resitting gfx card??

maybe when you vacuum you hit onto something. how you vacuum anyway? use brush + vacuum or just try to suck a bit at a short distance?

from ur 3dm11 scores, ur gpu score quite comparable but cpu score very low due to it running at 1.9ghz
likely ur gpu no problem

again, check ur cpu temps 1st
if cpu temps high, resit/change thermal paste for cpu

Yes, your overall gaming performance will lag or even basic usage will lag due to thermal throttle. You gotta replace the thermal paste. You can find them on youtube. Do note you are taking a risk though its small. But its that simple.

Thermal throttling will affect ur PC perf..

Try replace ur thermal paste on ur CPU..
Download HWmonitor, take a screenshot and show us ur PC temp..

Download systemdiskinfo, check ur HDD health, see got bad sector or not.
