Actually if u want to run window on your Mac, why don't you run your window on the same partition with your Mac to save space? Or should I said run 2 os at the same time.
It a mistake most just switch from win to Mac.

Hi can you guide me how to do it.
That means my macbook will be on, running the only HDD then i go to disk utilty and click on parition. So the OS will not be affected.

Because from my understand i can't do it while the HDD is in use.
So it means I need to use some special program to do the parition while the HDD is running.

Sorry that i dont get it.
The first few sentence is the method to partition the drive but my concern is can it be done when the drive is running.
Meaning I only have 1 HDD where to OS is install.
So when I on the macbook, the HDD is running then during this time I can still partition the HDD?

As for the last sentence, just like window. it means that during installation then i can parition it. Window dont allow user to partition the HDD when it is running.

Anyways, I think i found the way.
Someone comments that I can just partition the HDD even it is running.
Just hope that works.

If you want two partitions under OS X, it can be done easily. BUT if you are going to have three partitions of the following :

1. OSX partition
2. Bootcamp partition for Win 8 in NTFS format &
3. Data partition in NTFS format ( latest NTFS version from Win 8 )

It is going to be a challenge for you. It took me a long time to figure it out.
One piece of advice : Don't bother searching online for such solution as they are dated and useless.

Good luck.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.. I have a somewhat similar question...

My gf has a mbp, and the main hdd is partitioned into 2, osx and Windows 7 are installed in each partition respectively

Now I wanna get a hdd caddy and remove the optical drive and stick a 1tb hdd in the optical drive bay....My question is can I format the 2nd hdd such that both mac and Windows can access this extra drive? That way she can stick her music, videos, pics, etc and both OS can read and write on the drive. Is this possible or must I partition the extra drive into 2 again? Thanks :)

You can also format the HDD as exFAT, which both OS X and Win7 can read/write to without any problems.
