Hi guys!

It's my first post and first time trying to get a PC down at SLS on my own.
A little background on me, I dont have very good tech knowhow and Im really just getting a first DIY pc on my own hahas.

From what I asked for my friends to rig for me, this is the specs that I would be getting.

The prices are based on PC Theme's price list.
Intel i7-4790K + Asus Sabretooth z97 Mark 1 @ 861
GSkill RIPJAW 1866 CL9 @ 239
Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB @ 255
WD Black 1TB @ 100
Zotac 980 Ref @ 799
Seasonic S12G Non Modular 750W @ 151
CM 690III @ 123

The total adds up to 2528.
If they dont have zotac 980 I might consider gigabyte 980 ref. But it's at 888 and it will jack up my total to 2617 which will be beyond my budget of 2.5k T_T
Also, I heard that the gigabyte 980 actually consumes around the same power as 780 Ti, which makes me very reluctant to get it. (Is the asus a good alternative?)

For this PC, I will be spending minimum 2.5k on it. And maximum 2.6k, cuz I'm on a, well, condition that I cannot go lower than 2.5.
For assembling fees all these, I can spend the additional cash out of my own pockets it's okay but for the 'PC entity' itself it must be my 2.5 budget ><

So I was just wondering how I should go about it. Should I head down to PC Themes and buy + get them to assemble for me? But can I ask for a discount to get it down to the price I want etc?
Or I read from some of the other threads that I can head to tradepac and ask for discounts, while heading down to nigel's shop to assemble it for me after that. Of course if I have discount and I can squeeze the assembly cost into my 2.5k budget I'll be so grateful! :D
But how should I go about to purchase at tradepac? I just let them know the pc components I want without the prices or...? Sorry for the inexperienced questions Im asking!

I'll be heading down tmr at evening time. Thanks for all the help bros!

1) State all programs and games that you want to use with your rig.

2) Are you overclocking?

3) State model of monitor used and monitor resolution.

For Tradepac, Write down the parts you want on a piece of paper then give them then they will tell you what parts they don't have and give you a quote. Then bargain with them.

I am free and willing to help you tmr (As in today 26th September) though.. let me know which area you stay and what time you're going to SLS to buy the components? If it's fine then I can come and help, Assemble etc..

EDIT:
And change up your build a little bit if you don't mind.

Why don't you consider one of the Gigabyte Z97 range instead? Asus support is damn jialat lately.

why asus...so overpriced compare to others

Hi both bros, sorry I cant really reply to this question as I am really not too clear about the distinct differences between the brands hahas.

1) State all programs and games that you want to use with your rig.

2) Are you overclocking?

3) State model of monitor used and monitor resolution.

1) Gaming, streaming and music/sound engineering & editing
2) I understand that the K series are mainly catered for OC. Im not really sure if I'll OC yet which is why I put it in as an option beforehand.
3) Viewsonic VX2240W. May decide to change one in the future.

Hey bro, really appreciate your gesture! I stay at amk area, but I'll be heading down after my midterms in school. Im from NTU. My paper ends at around 5 so I'll probably only reach at evening, say 610 around there.
I'll pm my number to your inbox, and do allow me to treat you to dinner or something because I really appreciate you going out of your way for someone you dont even know and what's worse, a 1 post new member! Hahas.

Please list out the names of games that you will be playing and the sound editing software that you are using.

For now Im just using reaper, but in the future if I do heavier stuff I might move on to ableton or smth.

As for games, I play mainly d2 and csgo on my current setup, but once I get a better one I would go for watchdogs and bf4 etc. Hopefully I can run them on ultra, if not somewhere near settings.

my opinion... dont get a k type processor
simple overclocking chips intel on air/stock dont get much performance gain
and since not overclocking the z97 series board seems not worth it
can save quite a bit of money

if GTX980 out of stock, get a 970 which is a good value for money...
if down the road still not good enough for you, got 2 options
-sell of 970 and get Titan2
or
-SLI a second 970

then again its all up to you

Build complete for TS.
GPU is an MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr.
First impressions, quite a light card, wish heatsink could be bigger.

So, what build did TS got in the end? I hope that he did not actually get the Asus Sabertooth+ i7 K CPU.

Hi may i know why u say that? i am about to get the Asus sabertooth mark 1 and i7 4790k cpu. So far my past 2 desktops always got temperature issues. and the Asus sabertooth seems to have this thermal armor thingy which sounds good from reviews.

I have more or less similar usage as TS and have shortlisted the following items: do give me some advice on the rest to fill in:

Motherboard + CPU: ???
RAM: ???
GPU: Gigabyte GTX970
SSD: Samsung 256 840 pro
HDD: WD Green 2TB
DVD: Asus DVD
PSU : ???
Casing : ???
OS: ???

Do feel free to give me a recommendation for monitor. Preferably bigger screen because i always watch movies lying on my bed and not seated right infront of the screen.

Budget for CPU is below 2500 excluding monitor.

1) Are you going to use sound editing software like TS?

2) Are you overclocking?

3) Are you going to play the same games as TS?

4) Overheating problems are usually caused by insufficient cooling on the CPU and GPU. Getting a motherboard that claims superior cooling properties is NOT going to solve your cooling problems. A casing that is more conductive to cooling and extra casing fans will help to make your rig cooler.

5) List down the parts of your 2 rigs, maybe what you just need is a rig upgrade, not a new rig.
