Hi guys, I'm helping build a second desktop for my dad. Purely for surfing web, watching videos and office work (Mainly Excel as a database of clients and stuff. No complex functions/formulas).Not sure if I should build ITX or zbox, could anyone help me set up?

Mouse, keyboard, monitor, speaker, wifi, ~240GB SSD needed. Optical drive is a plus but how much would an external one cost for comparison? OS not needed.

Typical internal ODD cost $20+, while external ones about $20-30 more.

And due to thermal limitation CPUs inside these ZBoxes won't perform as fast as mainstream desktop counterparts. So if you do not require an internal ODD, you may consider this:

CPU+MB: Intel Celeron G1820 + ASUS H81I-PLUS @ $160
CPU performance comparable to a high end Core 2 Duo.
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB @ $95
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB @ $161
CASE+PSU: Antec ISK110 VESA + Delta 90W External Power Adapter [Efficiency V] @ $123 (mynextcom)
Size comparable to a ZBox.
DSP: Dell S2340L 23" LED [eIPS] @ $209
SPK: Logitech Z313 [2.1] @ $49
PHP: Logitech MK120 @ $17

Total: $814

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-18.

The above focus more on visual and acoustic enjoyment.

Zotac ZBox ID18 requires external USB dongle if you require wifi. NUC has built-in antennas and can use itnernal miniPCIe wifi card unlike the ID18. Also note that NUC carry 3-yr onsite warranty versus ZBox standard 1-yr carry in.

If you choose to get NUC, also need to make sure that the laptop RAM you buy is 1.35v or it wont boot

MiniPC barebones + wifi: Intel NUC D34010WYK i3 4010U + Intel 7260AC - $459 (ZBox ID18 Celeron 1037U - $199)
RAM: Crucial 8GB 1600mhz sodimm - $94
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB - $165
ODD: LG/Asus/Buffalo/LiteOn/Transcend/Neo 8x ext DVD - $45 to $59
Monitor: Dell S2340L - $205
Speaker: Edifier M1250 - $16
KB&M: Logitech MK120 - $18

Total: $1002 (ZBox w/o wifi @ $742)

Hi, I have several questions regarding your build:

1) I know a shop that sells Asus h81 and g3220 at a bundle price of $155, can I use that instead?

2) Will the Antec cause processor to throttle like zbox due to its size? If I want a dvd drive, what case should I use instead?
