Help!!! Laptop auto shutdown...

i have an acer aspire 4736G... and it always auto shutdown.. it shut down every 5sec to 10 sec.. i dun even have a chance to load into window... the furthest i go to is the login window... type my password halfway and auto shutdown...
No BSOD or what so ever...

At first i tot of over heating..
i have tried cleaning the fan blow out all the dust.. dismantle and clean everything.. None works... also tried reformat my laptop and halfway auto shut down..


anyone know what is the problem?

Did you apply new coating of thermal paste on your spring cleaning?

Did the hdd led blink a few seconds before turning off immediately?

no i nv apply new paste... but if it is overheat problem den cannot be 5-10 sec shutdown ma.. where got so fast overheat one.. some more i clean the fan and remove all the dust liao.. yes Hdd LED blinking...

It did happened on my VAIO and temps well down considerably after removing the already long hardened preapplied white thermal paste with MX-4. You shouldn't rule out this possibility and give it a try..

CPU get heat up very fast. So new paste and making sure the fan is running at correct speed is important. Suggest you boot into some free os via CD to confirm it is not heat issue.

This is just to confirm problem is not due to your Windows os. (in case of hit by virus).

try with another power adapter? i've seen many cases of faulty power adapters.

if your power adapter has got a green led, observe if the light goes off after the sudden shutdown. if yes, most probably the power adapter is faulty. but the best way to determine if the power adapter is faulty is to use a multimeter to check.

here is the problem I think. As Moneyface mentioned, even mobile processors can get very hot very quick. No current modern cpu is designed to work without some form of cooling. Plus when you first switch on your computer, during booting and windows load-up your CPU will probably be on full blast.

The fact that you didn't apply any thermal paste is a huge red flag. Acer laptops especially have lousy application of TIM:

Try reapplying paste (see youtube videos on how to do it, too much is just as bad as no paste). Thermal paste is really cheap. Maybe $10-15 dollars a tube. Can even buy off garage sales.

Good luck. If you're in the West, can take a tube of MX-4 (not much left but definitely enough for at least 3-5 application) from me F.O.C. if you collect from my apt.

If a technician looked at the laptop and came to the conclusion that m/b is not functioning correctly, then I'd go with their recommendation since we're just advising based on symptoms.

If its just from a pm, that's a guess from their side and you should rule out the heat issue before going to them. Changing a motherboard for a old laptop is kinda expensive and it might make more sense to buy a new or second hand one instead depending on the likely repair bill.

Also, make sure its not something silly like loose electrical plug or connector.

used to have the same problem with my old Dell. Apparently the motherboard worn out / overheated.. barely 2 years of usage.

You might want to get a new one or get Acer to fix it for you. Still within warranty?
